IS there anyone here who can tell me something about the 745? I have 2 I will be picking up in about a month. They have never been fired. So I must also decide do I break one of my cardinal rules, never have a gun you don't shoot, or do I become the first one to ever send a round down range?

There are plain unmarked 745's. There are the

ISPC marked models as well as the

ISPC 10th Anniversary model 1976-1986.

Single action only.

Safety lever only blocks the hammer from striking the firing pin.

The grip is straighter than a 1911.

A very robust firearm that you should not deny yourself the pleasure of shooting.

If you know the serial numbers or product code yours can be narrowed down as far as features.

Nice find. How much?

Bruce

The first 5000 were the IPSC models serial numbers all started "DVC". Those will be the more desirable ones, last runs had a LPA adjustable rear sight instead of the extended Novak fixed rear.

Way too much Bruce, but I couldn't resist once I held them in my hand. Like visiting a pet store, once you get you hands on them you really want to get them. I will call tomorrow and get the ser #s.

so we are looking at a 1987 gun.

Is the slide engraved or plain blue?

Novaks or adjustable sights?

Bruce

Since it is the same vintage as the one I own I expect it has the plain blued slide and fixed rear sight.

No matter how much you paid for yours, in 2000, I paid way to much for mine.

It's the old if you see it, buy it or it will be gone.

The seller was a US Olympic shooter and he had purchased them to hand down. Never happened, so they were never fired. Any idea where I can score a couple more magazines for them?

Midway USA has them in stock. These magazines fit many .45 autos so they are easy to get.

I'm sure Smith & Wesson sells them too.

You were right Bruce, plain Jane with fixed sights, but they sure are pretty. I think I will enjoy taking their virginity. Thanks for your assistance on this issue.

I have two, TBW and TBY. Both have the adjustable rear sights and no engraving on the blued slide. Absolute tack drivers. I have 30K+ rounds through one and 7K through the other . Only replacements are springs and one ejector. They are fun to compete with and I have fun taking them, their older half sibling, an early 645 and a younger half brother a 4506-2 out to play!! Excellent Dave. Everything I have read about the 645 and 745 indicates they are very accurate and I have no reason to believe these will be any different. As I indicated before they are truly NIB and have never been fired, I can hardly wait!!!!

If those are consecutive serial numbered guns, perhaps reselling them to a collector unfired would bring more $$$$ so that you could buy later models of 1911s. Just a thought.

I have an IPSC marked gun.

The numbers are consecutive. I have given thought to just holding them for a while then trying to resell but in all honesty I am trully tempted to just use them... I have read where a number of people didn't like the slide mounted safety and the fact it is a puch up safety. I kept thinking I had done this all before then I took a look at the Baretta 92FS and low and behold there it is. The Marine Corps had switched to the 92 a little while before I retired.

Wow, lucky find. I am kind of in the same boat. I have a ISPC model with the adjustable sight, unfired in the box. I have been wanting to fire that thing for over a year.

Well I picked them up today! As is my norm I spent a protion of my evening cleaning the new kids in the family. Sure were in need of a good bath. Unfortunately I cannot get to the range this weekend. I was part of the only all Oregon platoon to join the Marine Corps. 80 of us went to boot camp in June 1968. I have been working on a reunion and it will be this weekend.
