Nice 17-4 but what Stocks?

Pictured is a 1980 17-4 that my best friend can acquire for $700. He has inspected it thoroughly and the condition exceeds this picture. No real finish wear at all. Another friend of his is offering it at $700 after it failed to go for $850 on GB.

I have told my good friend that he is not likely to have another chance for a 17-4 below $700. If he does it'll be a steal. Can any of you please tell me what grips these are? They look like they'd feel great. I did tell him not having the original grips is the only slight distraction from my perspective. It has TT and TH.

Tell your friend to jump on it. Those are in my opinion Hogue wood mono grip (look for screw on bottom) with fancy optional bottom wood. Remove bottom screw and pull grip straight down to remove. To reinstall line up slots inside grip with positioning pins at bottom of frame and slide up. They are very comfortable grips and they make a rubber version as well as other woods.
I wouldn't part with my 17-4 for anything. I shoot it all the time. I put some beautiful Herretts on mine that I slimmed down ($5.00 bargain box). Mine came with box, original grips and original S&W holster from estate sale. If he dosent buy it you should or alert the membership where it is !
Note the price sticker on the box of .22s ….. lol.

Those are fancy Hogue's with a contrasting butt cap.
They offer a variety of woods.

With the TT and TH, it likely shipped with Target stocks.

Agree, a deluxe wood Hogue Monogrip.

A nice correct original set of factory Target stocks would be about $100, but your friend will probably not mind using these.

Eric - if it will help your friend with his decision there is a 17-3 posted in forum classifieds for $1,100. Has box and original grips though.

When he saw your comments my friend said "Well that's all I needed to hear I'm calling my buddy and tell him I'll take it". I'm very happy for him. His name is Eric too, and when we were both in junior high my Dad took us both out to shoot his K22 (which I have). Eric said he'd wanted a K22/17 ever since. So thank you again for the real time help on this one.
