A guy has a 629-3 5" with original grips, box, extra grips and speedloader for sale. Says its excwllent condition. Whay would be a fair price. Here is the ad poc
Thanks in advance
Is this a square butt or round butt gun? It will be important to know.
According to the SCSW 4th edition, the Model 629-3 (not the Classic), circa 1989-1993, was made with a square butt and had a partial barrel lug. The SCSW suggests it did NOT come in a 5" barrel.
The Model 629 Classic was made with a round butt and had a full lug barrel and was offered in a 5" barrel and was fitted with Hogue grips to convert from round butt to square configuration. The front sign is listed as "interchangeable." The Model 629 Classic was made in dash-3 circa 1990 to 1993. The SCSW lists the following values for the Model 629 Classic:
NIB-$1000
Excellent-$850
Very Good-$700
The SCSW also states for the 629 Classic "50% premium for 5-inch barrel."
If that is a square butt gun it might suggest the barrel was changed (?).

Thanks, i see what youre talking about. Those grips arent the original style anyway. It has the orginal black hogues with silver medallions. I was hoping to have an extra set of factory target, but i guess not.
$750 is a very good deal IMO if it is mechanically and cosmetically A-OK.
I just bought a 5" classic for $950 with the OEM S&W Hogues with medallions...they dont pop up for sale too often.
As stated the wood stocks are foriegn copies, dont think S&W made RB to SB conversion N frame stocks.
