Nice High Standard Find

Hmm, where have I seen that gun before? Could it have been facebook? Enjoy! Be sure to join the High Standard page on Rimfire Central!

I've always been curious about the High Standard target .22s. I've never had one and I'm not looking for an argument, just some general opinions on how they compare from an accuracy perspective with an S&W 41. I'm familiar with only one of those, a 1957 model I've had a long time.

I've found both High Standards and S&W 41s to be very accurate pistols. Back in the 60s when I was shooting bullseye, I used a 41 for a while and found that while it was accurate, I found that when it became a bit dirty it would begin to malfunction. Because of that, I switched to a Supermatic Citation and didn't experience that problem. I'm not saying that all 41s were like that but that's what I experienced with the one I was issued. Both are well made, accurate target pistols.

Way back when I was shooting Bullseye in the Navy I got to try a High Standard Victor. I was very impressed! Unfortunately I had just got a M41 and couldn't afford another target pistol. (and the owner wouldn't trade). Same usual problems with the 41, malfunction when a little dirty.
More recently when I got back into Bullseye I picked up a Benelli MP95e and haven't looked back.

I could have written this! My experiences, exactly!

High Standard .22 Semi Auto's were very well made, well finished and accurate guns! Their trigger's are usually superb as well. I almost bought one many times, however two things kept me from doing so 'till this day.

#1) is the magazine release on the butt of the pistol - never liked that!

#2) is the slide release is on the wrong side for right handed shooters.

Other than that - I think it's as good or better than the S&W M41.
