I purchased a Nickel 29-2 this past weekend that is currently on its 10 day timeout.
It appears to be very lightly used (or just cleaned very well). There does appear to be some light powder fouling on the cylinder face. The bore looks unused. I could not detect any end shake.
Can you guys provide some info: Mfg date and MSRP? SN = N8209xx
How does a newbie tell if a revolver has a target hammer or target trigger?

"N" stamp on cylinder indicates factory Nickel finish?

Congratulations on your new .44. That powder fouling on the cylinder will disappear in a minute with a bit of Flitz on a brass toothbrush.

A brass brush won't scratch nickel? I have used Flitz with a cotton cloth on a nickel 19-4. Cleaning the cylinder face with cloth takes some time and elbow grease but it works.

Yes. Smith hammers & triggers came in various widths but the N Frame 29s usually have the .500"
on both. From your pictures it appears to have the Targets.
Nice 29-2. I have the blue version of yours.
Mfr. date is probably 1980 according to my SCSW 3rd Edition.

It's in jail so I can't measure them.
So a target hammer and trigger are wider than non target?

Oh yeah! Looks like about Jan 1981. AND, it's a 6"! You know, there were a lot less of the 6" 29-2's made, so for me, a lot more collectible. I had one like yours, but foolishly let it get away. I now have a 6 1/2" nickel from 1974, which will do for now. ;)

Does anyone else notice the every other power burns on the cylinder face which usually means factory fired only,..or is it just me!...........M*

The guy I bought it from said he never fired it. He also had a 29-3 that he used.
Unfortunately he did not have the original box.

Definitely Target trigger, Target hammer, and Target stocks, often referred to as "the 3 Ts".

If the guy you bought it from bought it new and truthfully never fired it then I would say it's only been factory test fired...Good for you...........................M*

.....also because it has no box if it where mine I would shoot it, enjoy it, and take care of it.....I think you have a brand new gun there..........M*

The guy I bought it from was at least the 2nd owner.
I certainly plan to shoot it.

You know I have the exact same gun in the same condition.

I bought mine about five years ago for nine bills. I would be very interested to know what you paid for yours. However I will completely understand if you are reluctant to divulge this information

^^ 10 bills.
That seems to be in line with what I see on GunBroker but then I would have to pay shipping and FFL fees. Plus I'm in CA so this is "off roster" due to the lack of an integral lock.

That price sounds excellent, even if this one was "shooter grade only".

From the pictures, I would say it is far above shooter grade! Not that you can't shoot it of course.

A question, your post asks "N" stamp on cylinder indicates factory Nickel finish?
Your fifth photo is of the cylinder......my old eyes don't seem to see an "N" stamped on it.

Yeah, the pic does not show it very well but the "N" is at 12 o'clock in the pic.

Nice M29. I recently inherited a nickel 6.5" barreled one from my brother that dates from about 1976-77 as far as I can determine from the SN. Mine is in very similar condition, but has had one box through it. I also have the presentation box, tools, and paperwork. Does the presentation box add much value?
