Ran across a K-22 dating from 1952 today. It was in the gold box and it was nickel plated. It looked 99% or better. I mentioned to the dealer that I didn't know that they made the K-22 in nickel. He said the owner who consigned it had sent it back to S&W to have it plated and that he has all the paperwork showing this. Hopefully he also has the original tools and papers.

Any idea what this may be worth? I have K-22's dating to '47 or '48 and 1950. Thanks

Ought to be worth $650 I would think although for some it will always be a "refinished gun", regardless of whether it was done at SW.

I always buy stuff I like, and if it turns out to have collector value then that's great too. If the collector value is more important to you, buy a different specimen.

If you can verify it is a factory refinish (clear rollmarks, normal seam at the sideplate, case-colored hammer and trigger) and it is mechanically sound I would also guess $600-650. Do they have an asking price on it?

They have an $800 price on it. I told my local dealer about it and he thought I should of had it with me already. I was thinking about making an offer on it.

If the verification papers are available from the factory, I would attempt to dicker BUT would not leave the store without that gun!

Have had 2 near mint factory re-nickle K-22's that I sold for over $1000 each. They were sold again several times again local going as high as $1700! So you are fine.

In 2002 I passed up a nickel triple lock that had been factory refinished in the early '30s according to the gun store, and had not been used since. it was priced at $400. Boy I wish I could have exercised better judgement. I do not think that the factory finish will hurt the future value much.
