Nickel Model 36 Info Wanted...

Hello,

I am looking for any information on a recently acquired Nickel Model 36 received from a retired LEO...any info you care to share is appreciated...

model number behind the yoke is MOD 36 no dash

1. Smith and Wesson Mod 36 Snub Nosed, Round Butt, Revolver
2. 7 J 1617
3. 38 S.&W. SPL
4. barrel length appears between 1 3/4" - 2"
5. fixed sights

thanks for your information...hopefully I can narrow that down but I appreciate your response...1 7/8" is what I measured... :cool:

I had read that mine might be a "roving/floating J" serial from 1970/71/72 so your information lines right up with that...thanks

is there a way to know if mine is a factory nickel Model 36?...someone told me if it has an "N" marked somewhere but I have not seen that anywhere...further, many photos I have seen of factory nickel show a color case hardened hammer and trigger whereas mine has nickel'd hammer and trigger...

blue'd star extractor but no "N" along with the nickel'd trigger and hammer leads me to believe this is not a factory nickel'd Chief...still appears to be a good job with no peeling or anything adverse in it's presentation but for handling light scratches in line with it's age...
