Looks just like some snubby l/n frames to me.

I want one of these in the worst way, but with that internal lock, there is no way I will buy one.

I know the topic has been beat to death on these boards, but I wish S&W would listen to us and produce versions with out the internal lock for the states that are still somewhat free. With that said, I hope others who purchase one enjoy it.

Iam also at the very least getting an N frame in .44, better yet an L frame in .44 special.Yeah the 396 will be my first purchase...Then a little nub to the dremel, etc...

Sir, why not buy it and file down the locking stud on the flag. The whole project takes twenty minutes for even a newbie like me. The gun looks the same except that the gun does not lock when you lock it!

OK I know the subject has been beaten to death.

But I just got here!!

You can disable those lock thingys? My wife's 60LS has the lock. I'd love to get rid of it without leaving a hole for debris to get in. I've been buying old pre-lock S&W's to avoid that, except for her Lady Smith.

Very easy to do. If I would have known it was so easy, I would not have spent time complaining about the lock (other than it is ugly).

The big picture is: 1) side plate off; 2) lift mainspring and hammer out; 3)flag out; 4) file post off of flag with a file (or whatever means); 5) reassemble.

Gun has all the parts except that it cannot be locked because the post on the flag that does the locking has been removed. Nothing is loose or rattling and there are no holes to plug.

If you do not know how to work on Smiths, just buy the Miculek DVD and you will be amazed at how easy it is. Also, all of this is posted in the FAQ section. The key is getting the right tools and instruction. Use hollow ground screw drivers to avoid buggering the holes and to learn how to remove the side plate without wrecking you gun (easy).

Good luck.

Sorry for the extremely late reply, but I have a better idea... How about S&W produce the pistol without the lock in the first place? As far as looking the same, I disagree. The unsightly hole in the left hand side of the frame, just above the cylinder release is enough to make this a deal breaker for me.

Well said. More ugly revolvers. Yawn indeed. Regards 18DAI.
