Picked this one up recently. Needs to be re-"vapor honed". I will put an unmolested thumb piece on it.

Don't believe that is a no dash NY- 1. ND too early for 64 NY-1. Maybe they didn't stamp the dash.
Mine is a -4, it was not vaporhoned, the later ones were, iirc. Also the serial # was stamped on the left side.

More knowledgeable folks will chime in.

My 3 inch and 2 inch are vapor honed.

I believe you are correct. The 3 digit alpha prefix should be later than a ND. But there is no artifact of a dash # being on the gun. Maybe it was left off. I did a quick review of the std cat and it looks like the side SN and vapor hone were later.

Gary, the later vaporhoned ones had laser etched serial numbers.

Forum member BigBoku, along with a few others, know everything about these NY-1's including model 60 NY-1's.

Here is another no-dash round butt example. No evidence of a stamped dash. The feature set, however, is from a later revision.

Most of mine are dash-4s and dash-5s, but this is the second no-dash marked gun to have spent time in the safe.

Gratuitous 60 NY-1 with silhouette pic, because it's cool. ;)

I really appreciate these well-worn duty guns. They each have a story to tell.

I just stopped by to say I'm jealous of that 3inch 64" you are showing. I've got the 2 inch and it's a good gun, but that 3inch with full length ejector looks like the bomb.

Also, I knew the NYPD guns had a different finish, I didn't know it was called vapor honed. I learned something new.
