I haven't reloaded .223 in a couple of years. I still have a bunch of primed cases ready to load from the last time I did. But I shot some factory .223 with my son the other day so I'm prepping the brass. I used a universal decapping die, and I'm going to resize and trim next. I open the die case and there are only three dies, the resizing, bullet seater, and crimping die. There are no other spots for a fourth die and the booklet only lists the three. Is there no expanding die for .223 cases?

I'm super OCD about reloading and weigh every charge and measure every case. It's just been like three years since I did .223.

With rifle dies, the expanding is done by an expander ball located on the decapping pin of the resizing die. As you remove the case from the resizing die, the expander ball does it's work.

I figured it was something like that. Thanks!

If you are using cast bullets or even some flat base bullets with a sharp bottom corner, a Lyman M expander die is available in .224. It will slightly bell the case mouth to ease bullet seating.
