No fast track fans?

I sort of lost interest in stock car racing when the last of the moon
runners aged out/died.

I agree! Love the sound of those big Allisons and Merlins.

My brother managed a tire store owned by the team manager for the U-8 O Boy Oberto unlimited team. There were all sorts of Merlin engines and parts scattered about. And my apartment was just a block from where 3 other teams had their joint workshop. 100# nitrous bottles just everywhere in wall racks.

Seattle was always big in unlimited hydros.

Gradually became uninterested over the years, may be on as background noise on a Sunday afternoon. As such I began to recognize a couple names over the years, one being Martin Truex Jr. During the broadcast it was mentioned that Truex was driving the #19 car in his 19th Daytona start on 19 Feb. That was enough to have me checking the screen to see if made it past the 19th lap or finished in 19th position.
Neither happened, he was knocked out in the wreck with 19 laps left.

The O Boy Oberto was one of my favorites, along with the Miss Budweiser. That would have been cool to check out all those parts

My old room mate's dad was the team manager for an Indy 500 team that came in 6th in 1971. They qualified, raced and finished on the same motor. serious magic from that team.

I am a sports car enthusiast. I like it when they turn both ways. I watch more iRacing Coca Cola Nascar Series online races than the real thing since my best friend's son is in the series. Love watching GT racing, Indycar, and Endurance racing. As said above a few times, once Dale left us it just was not the same. Watched Jr race for a while too but pretty much quit after that.

If I am going to watch vehicles turn left, it has to be on dirt, preferably on bikes. The best show is indoor short track, where bikes race around a basketball court. The whole race is right in front of you.
I used to be a big road racing fan. I raced bikes and Formula Vees. I was never much of a racer, but I did develop an appreciation for the game.

Today, the best shows on TV are F1 and MotoGP. In person, I prefer to watch a motorcycle short track or half mile. The road races used to be fun, but there is too much slogging from turn to turn, usually hung over, dehydrated and sunburnt, okay at 25, not so much fun at 75.

NASCAR is a snooze.

I was a fan when I was a teenager but have not watched it in 50+ years now. I have watched parts of some (15 minutes or so) but no longer sit through the entire race. Maybe when I get older and less active (hopefully the less active part won't happen). :D

I remember watching the Daytona 500 on closed circuit tv at the Warner theater in Erie Pa. in 1968 and 1968.

Now that was stock car racing !!

I was THERE in 1968 and 1969 and WOW, to a small town boy from eastern Iowa only used to 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile dirt tracks, when we drove up to the outside of that high banked track, then drove through that tunnel "UNDER" the track into the infield, it was one of the most incredible things We'd ever seen. And you're right- that was some REAL racing. This PC **** now is just an insulting embarrassment for nascar !!
