No Firearms sign at local Safeway

We generally avoid Safeway as they are generally the most expensive and definitely the least customer friendly. With 3 other major chains around, they are irrelevant to us. I'll check them next time I go to the library as it is next door. Now, I'm curious.

Every time a post like this appears, I am amazed by the number of "Law abiding Citizens" that state that they pay no attention to the signs and carry anyway. In some states the signs do not have the weight of the law and in others they do.

Just because some little bodunk store has a lawyer who wishes to cover his butt sticks up a sign - that has no legal basis - does NOT mean I have to strip off my sidearm and leave it unprotected in my car. Places where is is ILLEGAL to carry I do not carry.

When I go out for a day of shopping I could spend half my time locking and unlocking the sidearm in the car and have people all over the parking lot watch me!!! I am NOT BREAKING ANY LAWS by ignoring the store sign as it is NOT a legal sign. The best they can do is ask me to leave - if they notice my CONCEALED FIREARM.

So, please don't preach your "law abiding citizens" at me!! I never knowingly break any law. I will ignore lawyer CYA signs if it an establishment that I MUST enter. Otherwise they get one of my business cards that shows NO GUNS - NO MONEY.

Luckily very few establishments in my area have the signs. I have also convinced some to remove the signs when the truth is explained to them.

Say you're carrying (surely you are) and there's a place that you HAVE to go inside, perhaps an emergency, and there's sign.
Name a retail business that I would absolutely have to go into?

Then, if there were such a situation or place, I would go there because the immediate need would trump such a sign. I'm sure my actions during the crisis would be taken into consideration by whomever I had to deal with.

Why is it that no one is capable of defending themselves without a gun?

C'mon, fellas, let's think a bit, here:

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

My mom had a saying, too: Your rights end where my nose begins.

Private property rights are the bedrock foundation of every other right. Including ownership of your own person, the right that protects you from slavery.

Your right to own a gun is predicated on your right to own... anything.

If you own it, you decide what goes on with it. True for your firearm, true for your real estate.

Can't have it both ways. The owner of property has the right to tell you if you can enter, and to set conditions, the same as you have the right to choose to enter or not enter under those conditions.

I have the Constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of expression.

I don't have the right to exercise it in your bedroom at 3am.

Do other states have specific requirements for No Gun signs to be legal?

In Texas,, by statute (Oddly it's statute "30.06") signs have to be exactly worded in a specific size sign and even in the exact font specified in order to be valid. You can't just put up a "No Guns" sign. Of course, you can always be asked to leave by the owner/manager. Failure to do so will get you a criminal trespass charge.

Our local bank in our little town once had a "No Guns" sign in the front door. My CHL class instructor pointed out that not only was it not a legal sign, it was really stupid. Did they think a potential bank robber would see the sign, go back to his get-away car, put the gun up, then come back in and rob the place?

The sign came down and has never been replaced even with a legal 30.06 sign.

i am not preaching at you. Perhaps you should re-read this portion of my post.

>>>> Anyone that ignores the signs in the states that give them the weight of the law, are proving what we have been saying all along. <<<<<<<

If the signs do not have the weight of the law in your state, why do you think I am preaching to you? In my state and many others, the signs are the law and that is what my post is addressing. If they did not have the weight of the law here, I would not pay any attention to them either, other than to give my business to a more gun friendly vendor.

I stand by my post.

Those signs are all over the place here in South Louisiana. Especially at every Circle K convenience store (as i believe its now their company policy). But whats crazy is the fact that the Circle K franchise is the most robbed convenience store in this state. I guess their signs are working out great for the criminals.

I've also noticed a few Exxon stores with this sign as well. But not all of them have it. Wal-Mart (no signs), but its amusing to see the on duty officer stop people when they walk in the store OC. People seem to get annoyed at the officer, because of course this is a free open carry state. But IMO, i believe the officer is just doing his job. And also IMO, i dont think one that means harm is going to walk into the store showing his gun to the officer to start with. He would likely be hiding it so he doesnt get stopped at the door.
