Got up early this morning to go buy a unicorn. LGS advertised a 29-1 in presentation case for $1299. Got there first thing today and it was a 29-2. Oh well, guess I won't be getting a steal. So instead, I went and did some booze shopping. Might have overdone it. Spent almost as much on booze as I would have the gun. Now my "bar" is too crowded. But I did pick up some good stuff.

Nice rum selection too. I like the dark rums myself. I've got some Black Seal and Ron Zacapa Solera on the bar right now. Kirk and Sweeney is a good one to try, if you haven't. As is Richland Rum, which is neat as the cane is grown in Savannah, and then distilled right nearby in Richland, Ga.

Thanks. It was due to recommendations here that I tried the Zacapa. Now I have 2. Plus, some 8-year-old Bacardi. Always was more of a mixed drink man when I was younger, but as I get older, I'm starting to appreciate my alcohol neat. I guess that happens when you stop firing for effect and buy better booze.

"Shoot, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff."
To paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson: The only thing that worried me was the tequila. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the throes of a tequila binge.

I've tried many a highly touted bourbon brand but keep ending up with Jim Beam or JBB. Always hated scotch but have recently taken to Rusty Nails and Godfathers.

Never been a fan of scotches either, although I am fond of a fine Irish. Which is funny because I'm half Scot. The Redbreast 12 has been a favorite, but I thought I'd try the 15. Still the oldest anything I've ever bought. Nothing wrong with Beam. And these aren't really everyday bottles, I'm new to higher end stuff so I'm trying to stick around the 100 proof BIB area for comparison purposes. But I did love the bottle of Booker's I nursed on. One of the stores I went to had a store pick Frey Ranch at 124 proof. If the regular stuff is all they say, I might have to go get one of those.
