No Mag Disconnect AND No Warning on Slide

Ok.. here is my 2nd post.

Not sure what makes this such a wild claim? Thought it was a simple question to a group that would have some feedback.

Pictures? You don't know what a slide looks like without the warning? Didn't think a picture was needed to describe my question.

Sorry I don't have 3700 posts...

Thanks to those who helped. I'll just assume it was a miss at Smith during assembly.

Fred

Your post was fine...Lost Lake was just teasing you.;)

Maybe it HAD a disconnect and the LGS thought it would be easier to sell without it, so THEY removed the lever?
A dealer modifying a gun and then selling it as stock? That would be a very risky move on their part. No, I don't think the dealer did it.

Well.... Not really. :p

Seriously: Post a picture of the internals. Is the mag safety bent? Caught on something?

I really think it is unlikely the gun shipped like this by accident. I would hope they would have caught that in the function check stage.

Fred, welcome aboard, and I hope you don't get the wrong impression. We are a really great group of gun enthusiasts, and I'm really happy these guys and gals let me hang out here.

But we get some weird ones that come around and say some crazy stuff in their first few posts, so I'm quick to question them.

If you do a search on mag safety you will see pictures and diagrams how the thing works and how it is easily removed.

You may have a rare mistake and maybe S&W would like to send you a new slide and a couple mags for your troubles.... ;)

Hello and thanks for the comments everyone - much appreciated.

Lost Lake - my sincere apologies... I should not have reacted and definitely not sounded off like I did... was a bit cranky and got defensive. thanks for your feedback and post.

Just to be clear, I'm not complaining about this... the gun works great. I was more just curious if it was a mistake... my LGS says they did no modifications so I assume it was a factory mix-up.

I guess I could call Smith just to close the loop but not sure if it's worth it... or maybe it is just to see what type of response I get. I did check the sku on the Smith web site (thanks for that tip) and it is for a non-disconnect model - another point toward it being a potential mix-up.

Here are a couple of pics... thanks again for welcoming me to the forum.

That unlabeled gun is liable to jump up & shoot someone! lol

I'm sure S&W just grabbed a slide without the warning or the batch of slides that were selected to have the warning printed on them had some skips. Monday mornings with hung over workers probably.

At least this thread wasn't started with the usual first post about how the gun blew up using factory ammo with the first shot fired and S&W won't fix it under warranty. This is usually followed with the OP saying they have no idea what ammo did it because he keeps his ammo in a bowl and throws the boxes away. He also has seven different brands on hand. The S&W lifetime warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

It's entertaining around these parts tonight.

I'm with you, there is nothing wrong with been new to firearms but is getting bad as far people lacking common sense and complaining about the most irrelevant things. There was a post an an other forum about a Glock that did not come with the copper lube from factory and how the owner was concerned and I told myself (you have to be joking).

If you do not like the warning (and I did not) you can buy the M&P with the magazine disconnect (and no warning printed on the side) and then remove the disconnector lever (and then install part #1787, which is a spacer spring, for $4.00, from Speed Shooter Specialties).

AH: I was only half joking, I have bought with out the disconnect since I do not believe it to be a good function, but someone may never test it and may find that it will not go bang without mag when they need it to go bang.

Yep that works great, did it with my FS M&P45, it's nice not to have that graffiti on the slide. That would be the easiest solution for the guy with the disconnect and the warning.

S&W M&P mag disconnect removal

On mine, it's not a warning, it's a selling point!!! I'll take a gun with no mag and 1 in the pipe ready to fire any day!

I'm glad my Shield does not have that warning. If you need that warning you should give some serious thought about having a sidearm.

Every Shield I've seen has the warning if it doesn't have the mag safety. It appears the CA compliant version (187021) has the disconnect and no warning on the slide.
