I was told today at my LGS Sigma's are no longer available, S&W aren't making any more. I don't remember reading that here. :(

I took a quick look on S&W's website this morning and I saw (4) models listed.

Perhaps your LGS does not want to sell you a Sigma for some reason?

If so, and that was my LGS, I would no longer be available either... ;)

I would think that if I didn't work there, we had of list of people waiting for them and we were told we couldn't get them anymore. Website or not, they usually take awhile to update them and might have a few laying around still. Just wondering if anyone else heard of this happening.

I wonder if they have the Sigmas and the SD's mixed up. I believe that the SD's have been discontinued, if I remember correctly.

I spoke to John at Cust. Serv. this morning. Mine is back-ordered but he said since it's a very popular gun they make a lot of them so he's hoping it won't be much longer before it gets shipped out.

Hope that helps!

So maybe I was right, with the new introduction of the SD9 VE and the 40 they will be the replacements for the "old" Sigmas.

What you're saying makes total sense. They made the new SD look like the Sigma, and they've lowered the SD's suggested price to within a few dollars of it. Got to be.

I can fully understand why the Sigma is most likely going to be replaced with the SDVE as a $10 difference is nothing for for what you get over the Sigma. What I dont understand is why not still offer the SD? There would be no extra machining required only the night sight and the finish on the slide. The small extra cost is well worth it; maybe the cost to S&W was too much and they were not seeing a large enough profit to justify the addition of the night sight and finish.

To me, the obvious has arrived.

Creating the SD was almost like creating a product for a market that really didn't exist.

Combining the SD and Sigma into the SDVE and eliminating the ol sigma and SD, actually makes sense.

Long live the Sigma! ;)

There isn't any attribute of the Sigma in the SDVE, its just a SD minus the finish and front sight. Reducing the cost on the SD was a smart move as the original cost was near the M&P now S&W can leave the image of the Sigma and its so called 100lb trigger while still offering a great low cost firearm.

no more sigma

S&W probably got sick and tired of people sending their sigmas in for trigger work. Hopefully this new SD with a trigger pull of 8 pounds, will be nicer than the Sigma. And hopefully you don't have to pull the trigger almost to the rear of the trigger guard before it goes bang. I have a sigma 40, always fires, never had any problems, just can't get used to the trigger.

The sigma may be discontinued at some point due to the SDve. But I seriously doubt they would pull the trigger this soon. I think your LGS is either creating rumors are has fallen victim to them.

Agree S&W most likely saw 1,000s of Sigmas wanting a free trigger job, I own the SD40 the trigger is better than the Sigma but it still has a long pull. The take up is lighter as its a totally different design. Id say on par with the Glocks I shot however the trigger reset is longer on the Sigma and SD

Talked to Joe at Cust. Serv. this morning for an update on my back-ordered SW9VE which has been that way for about a month now.

They switched my order to the new SD9VE and added that they are no longer making the SW9VE.

Does that mean the Sigma's becoming a collectable?

I was thinking of selling mine but I think I'm gonna sit on it and see what happens. :)

The price for used Sigmas will drop to rock bottom because the SDVE is only $10 more

Yes, it's time to start buying up Sigmas and become a millionaire :)

I like my Sigma a lot. I had a problem at first, but the factory fixed it fine (it's a SW9VE).

That said, if they are combining the Sigma and SD into one gun, they will accomplish 2 things: get rid of any market redundancy between the two models and get rid of the "Sigma Stigma" once and for all (this is the perception among the non-Sigma owning public that Sigma's are problematic - based on issues with early models, even though they've been great guns for years.)

I'll be hanging on to my 40F,I got the trigger just how I like it.
But, if they do drop the Sigma and go with the SD at a price close to the Sigma, I hope they can put out a .45 SD sometime. An affordable and reliable .45 should sell very well.

I can understand S&W's revamping of the line.

The Sigma always and never will overcome the stigma of the trigger. I love my 9VE and will keep it. In fact I am looking at purchasing another one, just to have around.

Thankfully the new SD9/40VE is priced in range of where it will be an affordable pistol. I hope it has great success.

And as of this morning the Sigma no longer is on the Smith website.
