Am I right to think S&W will not be announcing any new revolvers at the SHOT show?

I had my fingers crossed for a 2.5-3" model 66.

The new Kimber looks very interesting.

I, too, was hoping for a 3" Model 66. I guess S&W is too busy working on the Army pistol submission gun too do much at SHOT this year.

Maybe they're still waiting for those Bone Collectors to sell.

That 3" 66 sounds like a good one, but a short 69 would make a nice 44 Special too.

Wasn't thinking about that, a shorty 69 would be awesome too. Hell, an old school 8 3/8 29 would be great as well. Ain't got the funds for a PC 629.

Kimbers introductions has a mixed history of success. This latest one for me is neither here or there but I will wait on the sidelines and see if it works right in the real world before looking at it. So many new products by all companies seem rushed to the market then problems plague them from the start.

Was hoping for an S&W PC 9mm carry revolver in an 8 shot N frame and/or 7 shot L Frame - you know like a 627 UDR in 9mm or a 586 L-Comp in 9mm. Sigh.

I am very glad to see Kimber enter the revolver market. It sends the message that revolvers remain a viable direction for manufacturers. And, as a DA only weapon, if it has the action and QC Kimber claims, I'd love to see S&W feel some pressure to deliver significantly better action from the factory than the who-knows-what-you're-going-to-get **** shoot of late. Having said that, I won't own a Kimber 1911 because, as is often joked at USPSA, there's an average of two trips back to the factory per Kimber 1911 sample it takes to dial in their reliability - hopefully way less returns with their revolvers. Both my 1911's are Wilson Combat. No need to post how reliable your Kimber is. I'm truly glad for that.

I believe the Kimber K6s is from the Manurhin facility in France. May not be a bad piece after all...?

Of course, Kimber's denying that claim...

Well, at 23 ounces, the Kimber weighs exactly the same as an S&W 640 Pro, but it's a 6-shot. Hmmm...coincidence? How does that gauntlet taste, Smith & Wesson?

Other than the awkward looks, there are a few features that are puzzling. One is that aggressive slope from the top of the backstrap to the rear sights. With a gentler angle, they would have gained 3/16-1/4" more sight radius at least. But maybe a few fractions of an inch wouldn't make that much practical difference. The other thing that bothers me is the front locking bolt. They were starting with a clean slate, so why didn't they do a crane/yoke front lockup more like an SP101 instead of an old-fashioned locking bolt on the extractor rod? At that price point ($899 MSRP), that would seem to be a no brainer, and they certainly didn't shy away from borrowing the recoil shield styling and cylinder latch from Ruger.

I'm neutral on the recessed chambers. I'm not sure what benefits that feature has these days, and it would seem to make fitting of moonclips more complicated. On the plus side, however, there was no internal lock that I could see.

The bottom line? Wheelguns are still extremely viable, especially in .357 Magnum. How could S&W possibly lose money on cutting an inch and a quarter off the barrel of a Model 66? What's it gonna take, Smith--an updated Colt Magnum Carry?

I guess I've had better luck with Kimber than some of you. I can't wait to fork over my money on the first K6S I come across. All of my Kimber 1911's run like clocks and they are smart enough to build a revolver without a stupid keyhole on the side of it. It even has recessed cylinder chambers!

I was kind of hoping for a 2 1/2" J Frame in 32 H&R Mag or 327 Fed. And, a K frame in 327 Fed, a 5" gun with built in scope mount...

Exactly!!!

Those would be the next two guns I would buy, if they existed and each gained one round vs the 357 versions, which should fit.

Sometimes I wonder why they don't take a look at used prices, see there is interest, and make batch of them? Surely the market for another round of 327 Fed j-frames must be bigger than the market for the bone collector models, or one in 17 HMR.

Ditto for the 3" model 65, Marlin camp carbine, Colt Python etc

Regarding a 66 snub....
I was at the Dallas Safari Club convention a few days ago, and S&W had a display there. I handled the new 66, and asked the rep if there were any plans for a snub model. Rather curtly he replied that he had no idea. I asked if anyone besides me had asked about the possibility of one, and even more curtly he replied "no". I currently own 4 S&W revolvers, but I was less than impressed with their public interaction.

I completely agree. My 3" Ultra Carry CDP II has been a flawless performer.
My last two Pro Series snubbies (both of which I felt needed trigger work) MSRP's were priced very close to the Kimber.

The new Kimber revolver will be worth looking at when it hits the dealers. The overall fit, feel, and finish will determine my decision.

I was hoping to see some new revolvers from S&W also. I like the look of the new Kimber revolver. I also like that it holds 6 instead of 5. I also like the sights on it too. I will wait until they prove themselves before I consider one but I am glad to see another company making a revolver. Just like with vehicles competition can be a good thing to get a company to step up.

I know this is a revolver thread but I keep hoping for a 10mm M&P too.

Kimber trumps S&W in the revolver department this year and builds the dream carry piece S&W should have years ago...

I am not sure exactly what makes this new Kimber, which is a small, heavy .357 Magnum a "dream carry piece" when you can have a Glock 19, which holds 15 shots of ammo with equivalent stopping power in the same weight class, and which takes up the same real estate, has a longer barrel, is easier to shoot, with less recoil, and shoots ammo which costs considerably less.

And before anyone starts to give me a ballistics lesson, ballistics from a 2 inch .357 Magnum are, for all practical purposes, the same as from the premium 9mm defense ammo available these days when shot from a Glock 19 or 26, or from an S&W 9mm Shield.

I'm glad Kimber is making a revolver. It's about time someone did away the mentality of revolvers being dependable.

If the Kimber is the size of a 60 the one thing it has over the 19 or the 26 is it will fit in your pocket.

Being a Kimber owner and well pleased with it I have no problem with Kimber. IMO the K6s is a darn good looking revolver. If I didn't like my LCR 357 so much I would consider the K6s. To each his own as they say.
