I picked up a 28-2 this week,after the dust settled and the smoke cleared,I had $510.00 in it.It has a 4in. barrel with diamond magna stocks and serial#2458xx.It had a light rust stain in the frontstrap and backstrap serrations.A little rust on the hammer and a few freckles here and there.It is no show stopper by any means.Since bringing it home I've put in a couple of hours cleaning it up and enjoyed every second of it.I've been to the range with it and have 300 rounds through it,more time enjoyed.It's a tired old dog but man does it shoot.If I were capable of posting pics I would,and when you saw it you probally would shake your head.The more I look at it and shoot it the more I say no regret.

$500 for a classic .357 S&W even with a few blemishes isn't bad today and you can't put a price on the enjoyment you say you're having, right? Good deal.

I am a firm believer in if your happy with what you payed then it was the right price. Sounds to me like you got a outstanding deal.

There is just something about a gun with some honest ware that's just appealing.

That is why I take exception to the threads where people ask if they paid too much. Too much is speculative, and the only opinion that matters is the person who paid for it. If you enjoy it, and do not have remorse over the purchase than you got a good deal. Investment in happiness is more important than investment in greenbacks.

That old dog has more than a bark. It has quite a bite to. Glad you got to find out why they are so good. I have carried my 4" 28-2 concealed many times and it shoots like a dream.

It may be old, but it will never be tired. I have two 28's, each well over 40 years old. They are great shooters, and built better than any S&W revolver made today. There is nothing better than an "N" frame .357. Enjoy it.

Congrats on the Mdl 28. Im on the hunt for one now as my need for .38's is satisfied at the moment. Came across one in a pawn shop issued to (jacksonville)Jax P.D. for $300. 3rd gen pwn shop owner said it belonged to his grandfather. Finish was rough but everything else looked tight. I was wondering why he chose to keep it dripping in oil though. I think ill get back over to see him tomorrow and see if that is the best he can offer.

My good friend's dad is a retired State Trooper. He has a model 28 that he calls his Iron Dog. It is accurate as hell and as clean as he keeps it, you could serve Communion of of this thing.

I need one like it. One day I'll find it. If it's only $500 I'll gladly pay the money.

You paid a fair price for a revolver that will outlive you.
I picked up an S serial numbered 4" without box and target grips that are not original about a year ago. It was at a big box store and I traded a Kahr I didn't like and a small amount of cash.Think I have about $430 in it. I also picked up a 4" N serial numbered gun without original stocks, no box but it had a Tyler T-Grip on it about a year and a half ago. It was my friends uncle's gun and he was the Chief Of Police of a small Iowa town. Paid $400 for it. I'm going out on a surveillance in a bit, and I'm carrying it in my Lobo IWB holster. Just because I like it, and I'm in an N-Frame Mood tonight.
There is just something about the Highway Patrolman revolvers. No,they're not as fancy as the M27. I have a really nice 4" M27-2 that's actually TOO nice to carry. These M28-2s can take some abuse, and still look OK. They'll definitely keep shooting forever.
Yeah,they're just cool.
