No Serial On Shotgun?

The as-issued Mosin Nagants don't even have a legal ser# by US standards. The ser# placed on them in original manufacture is actually up on the bbl, not on the receiver. Not sure about the N/E Westinghouse made rifles.

The NEW and Remington Mosins are not serialed on the receiver either.

I had a Model 37 Winchester, no number and a few of the J.C. Higgins guns and my old Remington Model 33.

You think that's bad? Try telling the guy at the selective service (draft board) that the midle initial was just that, you didn't have a middle name just an initial. Drove the guy crazy until someone told him to type the middle initial and then (IO) behind it. Still drives them crazy on the 4473. My middle name is now "F(IO)" on my many 4473's floating around out there.

I had never encountered this MI only thing until I came to the US. You either want your kid to have a middle name or you don't. Why just give them an initial?

I also have a Winchester 37, but in .410. It doesn't have a S/N but on the barrel tang that goes into the receiver there are a few #'s stamped. I guess those could be considered a S/N, but they are on the barrel not the receiver.

Well heck, just get out the Bubba engraving electronic tool and put your SS # on it. In big numbers across the receiver.;)

This thread gave me somthing to do this afternoon Thanks

I just check my two old 20ga's because I though there were number's ...... NEW YORK gun? and a Iver Johnson BicylCe Works has them on the lug of the barrel and matching numbers on the receiver behind the trigger gaurd on the outside ..... Guns are from th early 1900s with what I can figure out the NY is 1923 and the Iver 1921 ....... Then checked a Sears and Robucks 22mag and a Glenfeld model 25 from mid 60s and could not find any ... Every thing else I have is early 70's and up they all have matching numbers incl my hungarians

I recently picked up an old High Standard riot shotgun with no serial number. According to the date code on the barrel it was made in February 1968. Just slipped in under the Gun Control Act wire! LOL
