Well after waiting and waiting, I finally had my endoscopic back surgery today!!! Woo hoo!!! Thankfully I can go back to work Thursday and only need to wear this horrendous Jewett brace for four weeks unlike 6 months after my open back surgery 12 years ago. Hopefully as soon as this damn brace comes off I can convince the wife to let me shoot my 15-22! Until then my wife went and bought me a PS3 and Medal of Honor Warfighter to try and hold me over.
Wish me luck guys!!!

I have had two back surgeries. I can only hope you have as good of luck as I have had. Good luck to you and if they send you to therapy go!

Thanks guys sure do appreciate it. Thankfully no therapy needed with endoscopics. It's amazing the technology they these days. They make a small 1" incision, go in with a scope and laser with a real time x-ray running up on one tv with a MRI taken 15 minutes earlier on one and a full digital 3D of my spine from a CT Scan on another.
Well after 10 years since I've herniated two more discs and screwed it up again, 6 epidurals, and many days hobbling around, I can gaurantee I will be walking a straight line from here on out!
Thanks again for the well wishes.

Kcabear,
Good luck... I go in for back surgery on Tues-Feb 5. for a Laminectomy on L4-L5. I think I have the terminology right.. Anyway, I can't keep hobbling around with a walker and in pain any longer. Hope the surgery cures things.

Thanks I appreciate it. I wish you the best of luck. I had a laminectomy done 12 years ago on L3-L4-L5. It was a rough procedure, was down for a good while. I cannot recommend endoscopic discectomy enough. It took 45 minutes and I was back home that afternoon and came back to work after 4 days and I'm happy to report after one week I feel absolutely amazing! For the first time in many, many years I wake up feeling good. I can now stand up longer than 15 minutes, before my left hip and leg would start burning so bad I had to lay down not to mention the handfuls of pain meds I had to take all day. Now I'm weening myself off the drugs. Again I cannot recommend it enough. Check out www.thefeldmaninstitute.com or Laser Spine Institute. A friend had a discectomy from them and is doing great.

A prayer from Texas for your complete healing. It is the follow up time period where you feel better but are still restricted that is a total bummer.

When I was discharged following my bout with pneumonia I was told to avoid fumes etc. Well there was one little spot of rust on a shotgun barrel and a little clean up one a revolver or two and before I knew it I was in a jam and had one very unhappy Mrs. Pawncop reminding of the physician instructions.

Follow instructions. I got it. :D

Haha! Oh I know exactly what you are talking about. My wife watches me like a hawk, I can't go to the restroom without hearing "Where are you going!!!".
Yeah recovery is the worst part. It's hard to take it easy when you feel so good.

great news guy. !! My friend had to take SSI after 31 yrs of work at the mill because of degenerative spine problems, he told us Sunday he is in steady pain. "On a 1010 scale ,I'm a constant 5". I cant emagine his mental state with that to carry 24-7.

Thanks guys forthe kind words. The surgery went well. I am now without any back pain and am on my way to getting my strength back. I just have to remember not to overdo things for a while. As you guys have said, the wife has been keeping an eye on me as well!
At least I have been couped up in the house during the time of year in Pennsylvania when the weather is not the best and most hunting seasons are over. I'm looking forward to Spring!

I wish you the best of luck with your recovery! Do what the dr and wife says!

I am extremely happy to report I am still feeling great after one month! I do have some pain after standing but dr said it will take 16 weeks for the disk to heal, after being cut up and zapped with a laser I can buy that. Now I'm fighting to do away with the pain meds. Thankfully no withdrawals, just trouble sleeping now. Guess its to be expected after 12 years.
Take care of that wife, you have a good one. I have been truly blessed to have a supportive family around me to help me get through it. I was 18 when it gave out completely, I was p***ed off at the world nearly had a nervous breakdown after two years. Then about 8 years ago it got really bad, for about 2 months the pain was at 8-9 out of 10 and it completely broke my spirit and will to live. If not for my family I would have ended up a statistic, but thanks to my Mom for seeing what was happening and modern medicine I am happy and doing great. Plus having people with the same troubles to talk to helps.
Best of luck. If I may offer any advice please feel free to contact me.

KCABear,
I'm glad you are recovering so well. I, also am doing well. No pain at all. I went for my post surgery appt. today. The Surgeon was pleased. He said just don't do anything stupid for a while and I should be fine. I assured him there is no way I want to go thru the pain I had and I will very careful in what I do from here on out.
You also be careful in what you do.

That is awesome! Glad to hear that.
That's exactly what I told everyone. After so many years of hunched over walking and hobbling there is no way I'm taking any chances and risking it.

I am really glad that you folks found the light
at the end of the tunnel. Must be great, not having to look
at the ground all the time. Three cheers headed your way!

kcabear take good care of your back. I am the other side of the story when it comes to back injuries and surgeries. I have back and leg pain everyday. I injured my shoulder in a fall because of my back/leg issues and I have shoulder pain so bad I take meds to sleep. I've had two back surgeries and have lost 80% use of my left leg and am now using a Rollator (walker with a seat) to get around. I just got approved for disability from the government since I cannot do the work I used to do, can't drive without someone to help load me in, can't get in the shower or bath tub yet. (too poor to get one of those fancy tubs or showers for wheelchair).

I could go on and on about all the bad things and problems but the bottom line is take care of your back. I took walking and doing things for granted and now regret it.

Congrats on your back getting better. Enjoy life and everything you can do.

Thank you for the kind words SW_shooter.
I wish you luck, and I can only hope someday modern medicine can make your life easier.
