In another thread some guys were talking about traffic tickets they had gotten. Reminded me of this story.

Friday night around 10 pm we were driving through Kingston, Oklahoma. We were looking for a party on Lake Texoma, a big lake in the area. Decided we had gone too far and my friend Roy made a U turn. A cop sitting at a gas station hit his lights and pulled us over. Roy asked if he was speeding. Cop says nope, you made an illegal U turn. Roy said sorry sir, I did not see the sign. Cop says there wasn't a sign. No U turns in Kingston, Oklahoma by city ordinance.
He has us follow him a few blocks to a motel. He writes the ticket in the lobby of the motel. He has Roy's drivers license. The clerk at the motel came over and took Roy's license and is looking at it. Roy takes the license from the clerk and gives it back to the officer.
The cop finishes writing the ticket and hands it to the clerk. Says here you go judge.
We are found guilty and fined $10 plus $3 court costs. We have about $3 between us, typical 16 year olds.
About this time a drunk comes in to get a room in the motel. He asks what's going on? We tell him about the ticket and that we need $10. He says I get to Dallas every now and then, I will loan you $10 and collect when I get down that way.
A few months later he shows up at my door and I gave him $5. I asked if he got money from Roy.
Roy is from a wealthy family. They have a 3 story mansion on 5 acres on Turtle Creek in Highland Park, Texas. Highland park is a very exclusive suburb of Dallas.
He says no. He went to Roy's house but Roy was not home. Roy's dad had the butler throw the guy off the property. I offered to pay the $5. Guy says no, if he can live with it I can live without it.

My brother and his buddy were moving to Kansas from Oregon. My brother worked his Friday shift and then piled into his buddies Buick station wagon. It was loaded down with their stuff so much it squatted in the back. My brother slept while his buddy drove. Somewhere in MT, they switched places. My brother wound that 455 up until it hit the stops, just sailing that boat across the country. Somewhere in Wy they get pulled over for speeding. The officer wrote out the ticket and told my brother, " I can either watch you put the fine in an envelope and then put it in the mail, or you can fight it. Judge is in Monday morning, you'll wait in the jail until then." Keep in mid it was very early Sat. morning.
My brother's response? "Where can I get a stamp?"

Well, that reminds me of another story.
I was with another one of my well-to-do Highland Park buddies.
Jay had a 1967 Thunderbird with a 428. My normal ride was a 1961 Volkswagen.
For some reason I was driving. We were going from Oklahoma City to Dallas.
I had the T Bird going as fast as it would. The speedometer went to 140 mph. The needle was buried in the bottom of the gauge. So maybe indicating something like 160. Speedometers were not very accurate back then so doubt if we were going that fast.
Edit: Looked online and saw an estimated top speed of 133 mph.
Just as we were getting close to the Texas border I saw an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman on the side of the road under a bridge.
I think I took my foot off the gas, but no way I could get slowed down in time. Probably a mile or so from the border. He just gave us a big wave and on we went. Guess he did not want to chase us into Texas.
