Federal Nyclad 125 gains are great. I have them. Also Buffalo Bore makes a standard pressure LSWCHP like the +P version. Also, the other posts recommends are very good too.

The Buffalo Bore standard pressure 158gr LSWCHP is what I carry. It has a little less recoil then the +P Remington load and is safe for older guns.

I use this load in my model 36 made in 1963,it works well.

I'd go with the Nyclads if you can find them. For years, this load was known as the "Chief's Special Load", for a reason.... they work in short barrel guns.

A 148gr full wadcutter - lead, clad, etc. Target loads are fine. They won't shatter a pelvis, but even mild target load consistently will make the largest wound channel.

Exactly. There are certainly better-performing +P rounds available, but for standard-pressure .38 Special, the Nyclad 125gr hollowpoint is hard to beat.

Hornaday Critical Defense Non +P 110's. See " Best choices for self defense ammo" scroll down to 38 special FXT v Gold dot v DPX. Smaller diameter expansion mid 40's but the penetration is excellent 12 " bare gell and 14 inch cloth covered gell. I was carrying Nyclads but switched over to critical defense. Shot extremely well and to point of aim in my 2 inch guns. Nyclads give better expansion in bare gell but penetration is much less, also Nyclads seem to clog up on cloth. I prefer heavier bullets in my handguns but it really is about good all around performance. I will give up slightly larger expansion for better penetration all day every day. It has to hit vitals and there in there deep.

:) +1 on the Nyclads thats what is in mine.

Cocojo, I see you are from Londonderry, I'm from Derry. I can't find the Critical Defense around here, everyone has been out of stock a while, I've been told. Are you getting them locally or online? My last resort is ordering online from Cabelas.
