NonSmith question:Glock 17 or Sig 226, which would you choose?

i have a g 17 and realy like it, its never been in the house, it stays in the truck 24/7, never owned a sig, but would like to get a 220

Well thanks to the Glock folks as well, still thinking about that one for a Christmas present for Mrs. SmithHound. I can say from experience that the DA/SA thing is odd from the PX4 I own. I've fired a few Glocks, but the weight, or lack thereof, put me off.
In a Glock 22, the light weight is definitely a factor. They have pretty substantial muzzle whip, especially with 180gr. bullets.

On the other hand, you should experience ZERO problems with the Glock 17. A few years ago, I had to choose between a Glock 19 and a Glock 23 as a CCW gun. I like the additional power of the .40 S&W cartridge, but based on the muzzle whip of my Glock 22, I doubted that it'd be better in a lighter, smaller gun. I chose the Glock 19, and couldn't have been happier. It's VERY controllable, especially with the Winchester White Box 147gr. JHPs that I carry in all of my 9mm handguns.

Our dept. adopted the Sig 226 & 229 when we changed over from S&W 66's. Upon retirement we are given our duty weapon, and I still shoot it occasionally. The 226 is accurate and handles well. I've only handled a Glock once and did not like it at all.

I get a kick out of the "it doesn't fit me or feel good" crowd. I must admit that I was one for a long time.

Guns are tools and we can usually master our tools if we quit whining long enough to try. While my dislike for glock and my glocklessness lasted until a year or so back just pre election I now am up to three...

I bought my first for the magazine costs which were <.20 vs the 35> for the competition in the large capacity 9mm out there. After shooting the G17 for a bit and finding it not to be zenlike it was extremely functional.

Feel light? put the full mag in it...

Would I want one for my only gun? if I did not need a bullseye gun or defense from some big critters it could suffice...

I actually want to get a few more one being a G20 for woodswork where light and soulless functionality are great qualities. I sure don't feel so bad banging my glocks around verses my sigs, smiths or colts :D

I was even planning on sanding off the finger grooves that don't line up for my giant hands but find shooting the guns easy enough- as I said not necessarily zen like but functional and sufficient.

I also will not feel as bad loosing one of my glocks to evidence for even a just use of the tool vs a likely panic if I were to use a Smith 29 or a pre 70 Gold cup :(

I have a plenty to choose from and ya will be as likely to find a G19 or G26 ridin with me for general use or as now sittin on the desk as I type.

I really like my sigs colts smiths etc but the ugly stepchild no one seems to love has earned a place in my toolchest... especially since Ohio got ccw and I realized that dropping, dinging andwearing the finish on a smith hurts- a glock not so much ;)
