Hey all. Im currently working on my first AR build. I want to make it ambi as much as possible. I bought a Troy ambi mag release, and a few hours after I ordered it, I came across the Norgon ambi release. Both seem to have some issues. Troy will scratch/wear on the frame. Norgon seems a bit difficult to use, according to the limited reviews Ive found. Does anyone have any experience with these?? Thanks!

Troy is what I use. It was cheaper . I don't care about the wear on the receiver ,its nothing to cry about. My rifles are not safe queens. I had the BAD lever on my rifle it made a mark on the receiver, looks great. Kinda like battle scars.

The Troy and Norgon both work well. I prefer to use the Norgon, but that is due to ergonomics. I have smaller hands so trying to use the Troy would cause me to break my grip more than I wanted to. With the Norgon I have no issues with reaching it with out breaking my grip.

If I recall correctly the Norgon will not work with a battery assist type lever but the Troy will. So if that is important to you then you will want to take that into consideration.

As for the Norgon being difficult to actuate, it is only on a full mag with the bolt closed. That is due to the spring pressure being exerted from the magazine. It may be the same with the Troy but I do not remember as I only used it for a very short time.

As for wear on the receiver, I would assume the Troy will eventually leave a wear mark on the lower. So if that bothers you, then I would avoid it and go with Norgon. If it is irrelevant, go with the whichever one fits your functionality, ergonomics, price, and cosmetic needs.

If you are also looking for other lefty friendly mods.
Ambi charging handles. Both are great handles, but if I needed to buy another one I would go with the BCM because of the price.
Rainier Arms Raptor
BCM GUNFIGHTER Mod A44

Ambi safety selectors
In my opinion Battle Arms Development has the best thing out there, especially the short throw selector and interchable levers. But there are a lot more cheaper options out there.

Again, all of this stuff, even with grips, stocks and whatnot, comes down to functionality, ergonomics, price, personal preference, cosmetics and etc. Me personally, I will take functionality and ergonomics every single time but everyone's needs are different. By the time you have the rife to your liking, you will most likely end up with a box of trial and error parts.

Thanks for the responses! Like I said, I already bought and received the Troy. Im just considering the Norgon now. I do intend to run a Magpul BAD, which is why I initially ordered the Troy.

I already have the BCM ambi charging handle. Caught a great sale on it awhile back from primaryarms.

I had intended to get the Troy ambi safety selector, but now Im looking into that Battle Arms Development system. Not sure yet which I like better.

I wish I had waited a bit on getting my lower. Aero Precision now has an ambi lower that comes with their own ambi bolt release/catch. My next build will definately include that one.

I run the Norgon, works fine on it's own, but as others have stated, it's pretty much worthless if you put a BAD lever on...at least a Magpul BAD lever. So save your money on that one. Troy's may work better, not sure.

I've actually started working on more right side shooting lately, so don't use the ambi items as much - but I leave them on they are useful to have for weak side drills n such.

I too prefer to use the Norgon, I have no issues with reaching it with out breaking my grip.
