Not Pleased in NM

Sad isn't. They keep passing laws to hamstring us. We just have to somehow get rid of these people or they will tax us to death and take away our guns completely. I am Also from the people's republic of Colorado.

Governor, and she would not have won a second term but for her opponent being a TV weatherman with no other experience. Appalling.

I bet someday the same thing will happen with the Office of President.

Maybe even get another one who is pushing 90 that runs.

I mean, both those things can happen- but probably never would in this Country.

Curious on two items -

Re "FFL exemption" - does that apply to C&R FFLs when buying "old guns"? If not the state legislation has just negated an FFL license. Also, under the theory that a law is supposed to (even in theory) accomplish some sort of positive end and be narrowly crafted when affecting a right, how does a waiting period fit into that box when a person already has guns?

Our governor was able to, "...do something..." about gun crime (we have the 4th highest murder rate in the US) in her opinion. She just signed a 7-day purchase-to-pickup waiting period into law. At least there are exceptions for CHL holders and family members.

We had a good run from 1912 to now with few restrictions. This one should take effect in July.

The provisions of this section do not apply to the sale of a firearm:

(1) to a buyer who holds a valid federal firearms license;
(2) to a buyer who holds a valid New Mexico concealed handgun license pursuant to the Concealed Handgun Carry Act;
(3) to a law enforcement agency;
(4) between two law enforcement officers authorized to carry a firearm and certified pursuant to federal law or the Law Enforcement Training Act; or
(5) between immediate family members.

Murders per 100,000 population

Mississippi - 23.70
Louisiana - 21.30
Alabama - 15.90
New Mexico - 15.30
South Carolina - 13.40
Missouri - 12.40
Illinois - 12.30
Maryland - 12.20
Tennessee - 12.20
Arkansas - 11.70
Georgia - 11.40

The legislature also increased 2nd degree murder and attempted 2nd degree murder penalties, requires incarceration of anyone committing a felony while on bond for another felony, and banned firearms from within 100 feet of a polling place during elections except by CHL holders, pollworkers, and LE.

This is the cost of "compromise" on supposed gun control laws across the board. Democrats are the "Party of Taking Things Away", including guns and gun rights. Sorry to see this happening to to you.

We need to be proposing and fighting for increased liberties, not constantly fighting some defensive action to limit the march towards civilian disarmament.

That is the current face of our 2 party "democracy" Poor choice #1 vs poor choice #2, go to the polls and vote for the lesser of 2 evils, despite the fact that the lesser of 2 evils is still evil.

Unfortunately most candidates are to stupid for the job, yet dumb enough to want it.

I always ask myself this "would I lend this person $20 and expect to get it back?" If not why expect them to be honest with our national budget? Consequently, I seldom vote for any member of a major party member on the national level. State level is a bit better, and I do have some what better choices on the local level.
