Just read an article where Austin city council approved a resolution to raise the minimum age to buy an AR style rifle from 18 to 21yrs old.

Texas State law is 18yrs old to buy a rifle of any kind. Austin is what is called a "home rule" city allowing them to make some laws that set them apart from other cities in Texas. I didn't see it in writing but I don't believe Austin can make any laws that are in conflict with State laws. At least that's how it works in Colorado with Denver being a "home rule" city.

Any opinions?

Ohio had to make a law that said that a city cannot outlaw any gun that was legal in the state. That was because you could legally own an AR when you were in the county. Then against your will your property was annexed into a city, and your Constitutional Rights were taken away!

One State, one law! No special gun ownership or ban areas, no special waiting periods, no special permits. No Bribes, no kickbacks!

Depends on the state. Some states allow cities to have more restrictive laws than the state.

Montana had such a law prohibiting cities from having gun laws more restrictive than the state. The most liberal college city in the state passed a law requiring any gun sales in the city to go through an FFL. They fought the state using the argument it was a sales law. LOL. The state then passed the no permit needed law and with it prohibited such a restriction AND in addition limited the college board of regents power to set gun laws on college campuses in the state. Final Laugh

MA. has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. We haven't had a mass shootings, yet! They don't bother me.....I'm already set for guns.....and all of them are Mass legal. I don't have much desire for an AR TYPE RIFLE! BobK

It is a resolution not a law and doesn't mean a thing, just Austin blowing smoke.

True. In Texas a city cannot pass a gun law in conflict with state law. It has been that way for three or four years. State primacy for gun laws was passed by the Texas legislature as a result of several proposed anti-gun laws in San Antonio in, as I remember, 2018. One of them limited retail gun sales to only in specifically zoned areas. Another would have forbidden any gun sales within a mile of a church or school. Not sure whether it was a mile or not. I attended the meeting of the city council where these restrictions were discussed and spoke out against them.
