As the thread title says, I really don't want to beat a dead horse on this forum as I know it has been discussed 1,000x over, BUT.......after an exhausting search all day, literally, I am having ZERO luck finding out any information about a new (to me) Model 37 I am picking up tomorrow morning. As everyone always does, I am just trying to figure out the age of this damn thing. The serial is AYP1xxx. I have literally scoured the internet all day and I cannot find any information, so I am having to turn to all of you for your expertise. The only other information I can give you is that it is NOT a 4 screw.

Thanks in advance for any help you all may have

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.

I'm guessing you don't know what the SCSW is, right?

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, it's up to the 5th edition now, and is usually considered the end all, be all.

My database suggests others near your Model 37, serial number-wise, shipped in early 1988.

Please stick around. There's much to be learned and shared here. Photos of your new Model 37 would be most welcome.

If you really want to know, with the triple-alpha SNs if you call S&W at 800-331-0852 they can tell you the exact date of manufacture. Otherwise what you have been told above are estimates of shipping year only.
