NOW A CAT 5 HURRICANE!

UPDATE ON DAMAGE - POST 63

This could be the one everyone talks about for years to come! We am right in harms way and a bit more anxious than I normally get.

We've prepared as much as possible and the wind and rain are now starting to wind up. I just heard they upgraded it to a Cat 5 which is the largest hurricane I've ever dealt with. SCARY!

I am draining water from the pool to keep over flowing to a minimum, I've removed our Lanai Screen doors, (prevents flying objects and lessens pressure in the cage) and our Generac 22k NG standby generator is ready to rock. Moved everything back in the Garage in case water comes underneath and locked the garage doors up. This one is going to be a disaster!! Just have to hope for the best case scenario - as we are pretty much in the Bullseye.

Chief - Riding out this storm at or near landfall will be dangerous. Hope your plans take that into consideration. I’m at the opposite corner of the state from you, now west of its projected track. Done all that I can, but in reality we’re facing the inconvenience of power loss not the danger of first landfall. Stay safe, good luck and keep in touch as long as you have power.
 
Ft. Meyers airport is reporting winds of 30 knots gusting to 45.

Chief, where are you located? We are right at the top of Charlotte Harbor.
 
My cousin just moved into his new home in Estero FL, about a mile inland, which is looking to be about where the southern part of the eyewall will make landfall.
He lost his roof in Sunrise FL to a hurricane a few years ago, and figures to ride this one out also.
Seems nuts to me.

I'm nowhere near landfall, kinda opposite side, but our streets are already under water and we were without power for at least 4 hours in the early morning hours this morning. If I lived near Charlette Harbor/Punta Gorda I'd already be somewhere else.
 
A word of experience: Keep the pool from overflowing but as full as possible. It's like a 25,000 gallon emergency water supply for when the water gets shut off. I supplied toilet flushing water for the whole block for a week.

"Free pool water for flushing. Bring your own 5 gallon bucket."
 
Wishing you folks in Florida the best, sounds like dangerous hours ahead.
