Now is a good time to purchase magazines

I've got my dad's Ruger 22 pistol circa 1952. Still has the original magazine. Keep it unloaded in the gun. Still hasn't worn out. They're not as fragile as one would be led to believe.
I've got guns that do not need magazines to function. I actually bought a bolt action rifle that shoots the same assault weapon round as the dreaded AR15. It doesn 't have a magazine either.
I've got 5 round magazines for my AK and my AR. Ever tried to shoot one of those from a bench or prone with a 30??? PITA. Hell ever try carrying one oin the field with a 30 hunting or strolling?? Again PITA.
Agree that thre should be no restrictions on magazines.
In case it happens it isn't the end of the world. One must get used to reloading more frequently-actually doing something besides pulling a trigger to shoot subsequent shots-being more deliberate in pulling the trigger and so on.
Full Disclosure. I own a 365 with 12 round magaxines-it is why I bought the gun. I like the idea of 12 rounds over the 5 in a J frame. BUt guess what I grab to slip into the pocket? Either the M&P380 or the 337!
Quick question-how many reading this are dead because they didn't have a large enough capacity magazine fed weapon while engaged in a firefight.
I have all the stuff just because I CAN and one day I might not be able to.
But when I go in the field or around town I leave the Rambo stuff at home or I will get the Geko45 glare from the others. If I honestly believe I need the Rambo stuff to leave the house, I will stay home.
Bottom line: keep a weather eye-buy what you want and remember that unless you have ammo none of this magazine stuff matters one whit. Everything is gonna be fine. We survived the 90's ban and we will come through this.
There are things that you should get lathered up about but this isn't in the top 10.
Now let's all go play with puppies

According to Senator Feinstein and I quote "We have federal regulations and state laws that prohibit hunting ducks with more than three rounds. And yet it's legal to hunt humans with 15-round, 30-round, even 150- round magazines." End quote March 2013 before the Senate Judiciary Committee. You can't make this stuff up. And to think she represented me for most of my adult life.
What a GREAT quote/sound bite. The woman knows her audience. DO not rise to the bait.
I can think of several reasons-ducks don't shoot back is probably the number one reason. I guess that instead of charging one with murder the shooter should be charged with hunting withour a stamp. The reason why the 3 shot limit was imposed in the first place was to protect the species from the ravages of market hunters. To date I do not see this as a problem as I think human consumption is still outlawed in the USA. Problem is if you kill one or a bunch the penalty is still the same life in prison for one is the same as life in prison for 100. Ditto with the death penalty. How many times can you kill someone?
No, there must be a reinstitution of torture and creative executions. We must repeal that pesky "Cruel and unusual punishment" thingy in there somewhere.
Kill one person-you get to go easy.
Kill more than one, and the state gets to go medieval on you-with the level adjusted accordingly. Think you can get out of it be saving the last bullet for yourself??? Wrong! Then they go after the family.
The above screed is why one should not rise to the bait but should shake their head sadly and utter the magic words "Well bless your heart"

I dont load mags at the range.
Ever.

I factor the cost of mags into the price. Typically an additional 50-100% increase to make sure I have magazines in volume enough to support copious range time without needed to load them up.
50-60 per rifle at least. 12-20 per handgun, minimum, depending on capacity.
To me having "a couple of mags. I am good" is akin to saying "my car came with gas in it when I bought it. I got another gallon just in case"

I am set on mags and I did make sure I own one ten rounder for each of my higher capacity guns.

My usual standard is six mags for a pistol. Two, loaded with defense rounds for carry, so I don't have to unload and reload for IDPA and the like. Four more for IDPA and range time. For some of my pistols, I do have more than six.

For mag rifles, at least 3-5, partly because it may someday be difficult to find more for my less common rifles. NV

I'm always on the look out for mags for my Valmet 76. Cape Outfitters sold them in the 90's, before they ran out, for $80 (30 AND 15 rounders). OGCA used to be a good source, but alas... I hate to think of how much the next one I run into will cost.
