OK,, I may have to eat my words...( not a first )
Yesterday I received an email from the NRA about their new Blended Basic Pistol Course.

When the NRA announced their new blended, part computer, part instructor course. I called bravo sierra. I wasn't going to be apart of no goof dick computer training course.

Well,,, Yesterday I went over about 20 minutes of the Phase I computer part of the new class. It's suppose to be a 6 1/2 hours course. IMHO it appears to be very well done.

You have to finish one section before you can advance to another section,, and it doesn't appear you can short cut the system..

Today I read over the Instructor part,, Phase II, of the course.. I was actually impressed... Instructors are a big part of the course ,, not just mindlessly signing off on a certificate.. actually the course appears to be much harder and structured than the previous Basic Pistol Course..

Pros : The computer part will cover most of the mindless stuff that you have to go over & over & over in each class .. Stuff student can learn on their own time and at their own speed,, and not your time and others.. It's in a standard repeatable format..
Cons: More paper work than the previous course ..

From what I can see and read, the blended learning course on basic pistol took several years to formulate and finalize to what appears to be a good step forward. The student can work on his or her schedule and time frame. The instructor can schedule the class as always and the student can register for phase one and once completed will continue to phase two with the instructor for the firearm qualification and insure the phase one has been completed and proper procedures in safety and review of the information from phase one is satisfied to the issuance of the completion certificate. The implementation of the blended learning is right around the corner. The student packets have been exhausted and are on back order due to the overwhelming demand from the instructors. The first steps intro courses have or will be eliminated and other courses will be with the blended learning method. Many of the instructors have given a thumbs up on the approved course and it looks like a winner.
