Last PM rec'd a phone call from a real person asking me to take part in an NRA survey, Not sure but I think he classified me as a "former NRA member", which I'm not... Still have a couple of years on a 3 yr membership, IIRC..
Sigh, I know where this was headed... Yep after a couple of really classical question's about a certain Induhvidual's attempts to control guns, ammunition, etc.. We got to the "meat"! How about $100 contribution.. I said no and the price dropped to $35.. I had to explain patiently to the shill on the phone that as a matter of principal, I do not do business in any way shape or form with any telephone solicitor. I thanked him for soliciting my opinion and wished him a good evening.. Anybody else getting the "call"?

The phone survey I think is bogus. There is a company out there I have read is using N R A standing for National Recovery Associates, a collection agency, that is doing bogus surveys offering a carribean cruise, etc. I doubt the NRA is cold calling doing phone surveys. I am not a member however.:)

I get mail from them but never a phone call. Of course if they matched my "round ups" on MidwayUSA to me they'd send me thank you notes instead of donation requests. I end up giving them more through that than dues and other donations.

I have been a member for forty-plus years, always with one or two year renewals. I used to renew over the phone. They would call and tell me my membership was expiring, and ask if I wished to renew. They haven't done that in several years, so I now renew with a recruiter I know.

I believe the NRA is actually doing these fund-raising "surveys." They have called me on occasion, probably twice a year, for several years now. I politely tell them that I don't have time to participate and hang up. What's so hard about that? I do the same for other phone solicitations, no matter what the cause.

Also, when the mail "surveys" come in, they go straight to the trash. Again, nothing difficult about that. I am sure their phone and mail solicitations must be making them money, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. More power to them.

I support them with my membership dues, and an occasional gift to ILA. I usually pick and choose my own candidates to support. I am very wary of contributing to causes. I only give to my Church, the Salvation Army, the NRA on occasion. I am pretty confident of where that money is going.

Edit: Chuck, I do the "roundup" thing too. Just yesterday, as a matter of fact.

I called the NRA about 5 years ago to tell them not to send any printed material(told em' to save the money, they were preaching to the choir ;)) or call me anymore. They've respected my wishes since then.
I send in contributions every now and then at my own discretion. And of course, the Midway roundup.

I send the NRA a couple bucks when they ask. No big deal. It's the monthly mailing from Midway that I fear. :D

Why aren't you a member?

I just have not joined. Although I live in Texas I don't own a rifle, only handguns. I like their President, and am a member of one other pro gun orginization. One reason I don't display bumper stickers etc, and maintain membership, sometimes those things work against you. I am told that Shreveport one will get profiled if they have NRA stickers on the car and pulled over and hassled even with a valid CHL. I do not have direct knowledge that this is true so I am not saying it is. I know several people who are members of the NRA. I stay pretty busy with other activities and several other orginizations so that is why. I do agree with most of the postions taken by the NRA on the 2nd Amendment. My mind is a bit less made up on other items like assault rifles and round capacity. I know Charleston Heston said that they could take his guns when they pry it from his cold dead fingers, my saying is they can have mine bullets first.
