NRA's Wayne LaPierre on Meet The Press This Morning

Is it just me or did Wayne look like part of breakfast was still clinging to the corner of his mouth?

Maybe we should start a movement to draft Magnum? ;)
I agree, Wayne has been looking a little lacking in confidence, and I wish that when the interviewer asked about new gun laws he would have just said "No".

But, my suggestions, FWIW, is that you go to the websites of the news organizations, find the right section, and post your comments to reinforce the facts. The facts being, the AWB was tried and made no difference in crime rates, the fact that criminals and the deranged have already made the decision to disregard the law, the fact that areas that have had strict gun control have had the highest rates of violent crime while areas with the highest ownership of guns have the lowest rates.

We can win if we all make the effort. Don't just send your money to the NRA, GOA, SAF, etc., and think that your job is done. It will take more than that to turn the tide, and we will all feel the pain if we allow our rights to be diminished.

With the internet we have the power to contact media and elected officials whenever we want, as many times as we want. It takes time, its a hassle, but the cost of not pitching in are going to be far worse than the inconvenience of writing some emails/posting comments.

Oh, and for everyone posting in this forum, thanks. I just wish I was seeing more NRA shields. ;)

I am afraid that most people who were on the fence said:
In January, if congress hasn't made any progress on the "Fiscal Cliff", and as the shooting doesn't make the daily news, then we'll see where people are on this issue. Right now any polls are, for obvious reasons, influenced by this tragedy. The old saying, don't make decisions based strictly on emotions, holds here. Time will tell.

Waiting will not get it done!
I must say that we, and by we I mean the NRA and the Pro-Gun lobby, need to get out in front of this or gun rights will be steam rolled.
The NRA needs to get someone like I described to run point in the public eye. Mr. LaPierre ain't it.

What the NRA needs is another Charlton Heston. Someone who can speak and when he does get attention. Heston while not everyone's favor was a great public speaker, and he pulled in a bit of Hollywood with it. If it would not mean the total demise of his acting career I would suggest Tom Selleck or someone else with really good PR skills. I mean look at Obama, he has nothing at all in the way of substance but he sells it. I hate to say it but what we need in the NRA is a BS artist that can paint one heck of a masterpiece.

Maybe the NRA should hire Ted Nugent as their PR guy.

Ted has too many skeletons in his closet unfortunately. I nominate Clint Eastwood...

That is precisely the image we don't want, at least, out in front.

BTW, Heston didn't come out for gun rights in a big way until his acting career had reached a dead end. If he had then jumped on the anti-gun bandwagon, he'd have just been another celeb in the crowd. As a pro-gunner, he got far more publicity and became a public figure again. But I do think he believed in our cause. He served it well.

Point is, no other Hollywood type, even if inclined to do so, could risk his acting career for the gun cause.

Aloha,

Admittedly Wayne may not be the best choice, but, I don't see anyone

stepping up to take his place.

The Wife and I liked NO Concessions, NO retreat. NO Admissions.

Give them an inch and they'll take off running with it making major

headlines with it.

As had been said before, the Line in the Sand is drawn.

I am a huge fan of Ted Nugent, and I have been for a long time, but even I don't think he would make a good spokesman for the NRA. He is EXACTLY who the left would like to see gun owners pick though. I agree with Ted not just on guns but on his view on social issues. Ted though is not going to get older gun owners, people in their sixties who are the ones we need in the NRA to come around to standing against the assault weapons ban. They are the ones (not all mind you) who like their hunting rifles, may or may not carry a handgun, but don't like those black rifles. Where I live there are two gun shops, both of them owned by guys over 65 and they want nothing to do with AR's or AK's. I know one when I was going to see Ted Nugent back in 2008 I stopped by because his shop was on the way to the concert, he hates Ted and hates Ted even being in the NRA. Guys of that age group will leave the NRA because they think he is some sort of lunatic.
No if the NRA wants to pick a spokesman, they need someone who is not going to tick off enough the older voters and members, even though Ted himself is in his sixties. I think Tom Selleck is good, and maybe a few others, but again as much as I like Ted, and I do, not for this.

I am afraid we do, and it ain't looking good.
55% Favor Assault Weapons Ban, But 62% Oppose Complete Gun Ban - Rasmussen Reports™
We are being systematically demonized, and frankly, I don't know that there is anything we can do about it. We have had a couple of members here relating how their wives have jumped them about "assault weapons." I am afraid that most people who were on the fence, or apathetic before the shooting are, at least for the time being, on the other side now.

You are correct. The simple fact of the matter is that "we" are outnumbered. And "we" will continue to be more and more outnumbered in the future. Even among gunowners, many, perhaps even most, just have a shotgun to hunt with, or have granddad's old pistol, and never really shoot, and they couldn't care less about defending themselves or their State against the tyranny of the central government, which they STILL believe to be an impossibility, preferring to blindly repose in the comfort of their gilded chains and sordid affluence...

David Gregory was obnoxious, but Wayne, looked ill at ease and was a horrible spokesman. When Gregory held up the five round magazine, and compared it to a thirty rounder ( smugly I may add) Wayne missed the obvious comeback. All he should have said was, David do you want your Government raiding every home in America to confiscate all thirty round Magiznes? Unless you do, what will stop the next mental person from using one. Make no mistake, this is not about protecting children, it is about government control, and an eventual ban of all firearms.

Well, that didn't take long!

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Press charges against David Gregory for possession of a 30-round, high capacity assault rifle magazine in Washington D.C

ETA a stolen quote from another board: "Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning dissimulation or feigned ignorance) example-
While airing Meet the Press in Washington DC, 12/23/12 David Gregory is in posession of a high capacity magazine in which case he tries to prove that they would not exist or be available if they were made illigal federally- which is/was currently illegal in Washington at the time of broadcast.
