Nyclad 158 .357

I was consolidating and counting ammo and found several old boxes I don't remember buying(or when). what era would Federal nyclad 158 .357 hail from.Also .38 spec +p+ 110 winchester"Law Enforcement only" Treasury load? Last but not least is CCI Lawman 140 jhp .357 in a blue plastic box? Any of these collectable or just shoot as desired stuff?

Eric, I also have several boxes of Federal Nyclad pistol ammo, both in .357 and .38. I noted the .357 SWCHP's that I have come in two different box styles. The older ones are in the blue and white Nyclad box, but I also have a box of the same ammo in a newer, gold, Federal Premium box. I bought them all about a year ago in a mom & pop place that probably had them on the shelf for years. I would guess the older blue boxes are from the early to mid 80's. Just a guess.

I bought them more for the "cool" factor than to actually use. Although I did shoot a few rounds and they shoot OK. I shot one round into a row of water jugs. When I retrieved the bullet, I noted it started to break up after full expansion. In my opinion, there are better defense loads on the market today.

They probably have some collector's value, but are more likely valuable to guys who love 'em and can't get them anymore. I am saving mine. There is always cheaper ammo to be had for target practice.

The blue boxed Federal Nyclad are from th 1980's. The newer gold colored Federal Premium date around the late 80's to early 90's. Federal was pretty much done making their line of Nyclads by the mid to late 90's (they bought the rights for the Nyclad design from the defunct Smith & Wesson ammo company in the mid 80's).

Your Winchester 38Spl 110JHP+P+ loads are easy to date as the cases should all be headstamped with a 2-digit year date. Winchester continues to make this load for their Ranger LE line.

The Speer Lawman in the blue plastic flip-top box dates around the mid 80's to early 90's. The blue box replaced the CCI-Speer yellow boxes of the same design, which dates to the 70's. Your 140JHP's should have a circular HP cavity as the early Lawman revolver loads used Speer's "Pentapoint" bullets that had a pentagonal cavity opening.

As a side note to the Speer Lawman blue box, when the 41 Action Express cartridge came out in 1986, to the best of my knowledge, Speer was the only U.S. manufacture to load this caliber and the introduced it in the Lawman line loading a 180PHP (Plated Hollow Point) and packaged it in the blue plastic boxes 25 rounds per box. Shortly thereafter the PHP was refined and renamed the Gold Dot.
