chronographing old .357 ammo

I just looked at SAMMI 357 pistol & Revolver ammo specs.
They state that they did use 10" barrels back in the day to test loads.

I beleive the fifures are for a 6" ported, a 10" and then a maximum fps.
It is hard for me to beleive that the maximum fps data came out of a revolver.
Here are the numbers, are they correct?

I know what my 686 6" can get but can't see these high fps numbers. ( no H110 or w296 )

110 jhp ...... 1270 ............ 1650 ....................... 37,800 psi
125 ............ 1425 ........... 1600 ....................... 1875fps
158 ............ 1220 ............ 1545 ...................... 1600fps

I thought the 8 3/4" barrel was the longest that S&W made in .357 Magnum.

Please remember these tests the next time "old" 38spl velocities come up. No, they didn't water the old loads down. They just stopped lying about real world velocities.

I've got some of that fireball throwing 125gr Remington HP ammo in 357. While I don't own a chronograph, it sure sounds like it is doing 1400 fps from my 686.
