My 1st. Was this Marlin 1897 carbine 22. My dad bought for me for 5th. Birthday. He never let me forget it cost him $8, in 1955 his bring home pay
was $56/wk. I guess I made such fuss over rifle that other gifts were forgotten. With in a week I had started a gun collection when friends and
family saw I was a gun nut. I received Jap 6.5, German 98, Stevens Favorite
2- wire twist doubles and Win. 68 . I also got a 1849 Colt and Spanish 32 that
my dad took and put away for me. This started me down the road to ruin!

First real firearm in the summer of 1957 when I was 7: a bolt action single shot winchester.

I had just turned 18 and walked into old west arms with a gun nut friend to look around.Walked out with a cap and ball revolver and all the fixins to shoot it.Voted in my first election the same day [emoji4]

Christmas 1957. Dad got me a 410 bolt action with 3 round magazine. Maker is Springfield. I was 10.

I had guns I could use from very early on but never got one that was "mine" until 1984. Remington 870 LH 12 gauge pump, 2 barrels used from an ad out of the paper/ penny saver (can't remember which). When my father passed I got 2 more 1 of which I sold, 1 I still have. My first hand gun was when my mother gave me hers. Then I bought my S&W 640 38spl. Another paragraph would wrap up all of my gun history. 3 handguns and 4 long guns is what I have now. 2 long guns and 1 handgun are gone now. That's it.

Stay safe, John

Hey Cal44,

Did your's look something like this? This is the Remington model 34 NRA (circa 1933) that was my grandfather's, then my mother's, then mine when I was about 12.

First was a Daisy pump BB gun when I was 7 yrs old. It taught me the superiority of a receiver sight. At age 10 I received a Sheridan Blue Streak air rifle. The local rodent population was now in trouble. At 14 I got a 36 cal cap and ball revolver. I was fascinated by the different bullets and powder charges I could use.

Dad got me a Remington bolt action single shot 22 for my 12th birthday. I think it was compensation for having moved me (and the rest of the family) from our beloved home state of Texas to Colorado. That was 50 years ago and I never left my adopted state. The 22 would pick off 12 gauge hulls and pine cones at 25 yards from the prone position all day long. Unfortunately, it disappeared into the mists of time

My Pop bought me hunting guns when I was growing up, but the first gun I ever bought with my own money/permit was this:

I wanted one since 1987. When I graduated the NJSP Academy in 1997, this Bren was my first "Big" purchase.

A mossberg .410, bolt action for my 8th birthday. I got to be a pretty good shot with that thing. When I felt ready, I graduated to a 12 Gauge. I wasn't ready! I still don't shoot my 870 12 gauge as well as I shot that little old Mossberg.

In 1962 when I was 15, Dad bought me a Stevens Model 311 double in .410. Gave many years of great service. Still in the safe as I write this.

My Maternal Grandfather died a few days before my 4th birthday. Later at his house my parents were going through his things. Dad noticed a Springfield 53A Single Shot bolt action .22 rifle. He said " if nobody want this, can I take it for Jimmy?" Nobody objected, so it became mine. I still have it in my safe. It's probably worth about $150 today......to me it is priceless.

First Gun

Dad got me a 22LR Remington Model 514A at age 13, I was in the 8th grade. 22LR were $.25 a box of 50. I spent every Saturday in the woods in back of the house chasing rabbits and fuzzy long tails thru Mississippi around Jackson back around 1955-56.

My family did not keep guns. I got my first taste of shooting at age 11, from a neighbor's father. Over the years, I had opportunities to hunt a little, and to shoot friends' handguns. For a while, I lusted after a 1911, because I found them so comfortable to shoot and relatively easy to shoot well. In those days, though, race cars and motorbikes commanded all my disposable income.

It was not until sometime in the '80s that my first guns came to me, a couple of CZs. I had been hearing about CZs for years, mostly from other CZ motorcycle owners. Finally a buddy who had no CZ bikes of his own offered me a pretty good price on his CZ 52 and vz. 50, along with a couple boxes of .32 ACP and just over a thousand rounds of 7.62x25, thinking that the guns ought to be in the hands of someone who appreciated Czech hardware and engineering.

For years, those were my only guns. I shot them a couple of times a year on dirt bike weekends in the Cheyenne River breaks. The rest of the year, they were tucked in the back of a closet.

I was given my first "gun", a Daisy pump pellet pistol, on my fourth birthday by my grandfather, the man who taught me to love shooting pistols. He showed me how to work it and proceeded to set me up with a few cans to shoot then went to grab himself a drink. Although I do not remember any of this the story goes that I proceeded to shoot out all the garage windows before starting on the house ones. At that point I got my gun taken away for two years. I swear this story comes up whenever any child in my family gets a gun. I never get blamed for it but I do feel abit sorry about it.

I am currently in the process of setting up a trust so my daughter can get her first real gun, a 15/22 that I will short barrel and silence. I want her first one to be a good one.

Stevens made 410 bolt action shotgun with cut down stock when I was four years old. Still have it.

Lotsa Marlin 1st guns. In summer of 1963, I traded a Daisy Red Ryder for a rusted shut marlin bolt action 7 shot. Got it slicked up and refinished the stock right quick. My nephew still has it up at his house in Virginia. I might get it back someday. Joe

I was twelve in 1949 when a family friend gave me a Walther PP he brought back from WWII, having taken it from a German who "no longer needed it".

My dad disliked guns after D-Day (first wave) on Omaha Beach, and could no longer see well enough to shoot anyway. My mother wasn't thrilled with Harry's gift, but didn't say anything at the time. But when someone tried to steal the Walther she took it to a pawn shop and sold it for fifteen bucks. I never got to shoot it.

Nice pistol, very clean. Had the late owner's name penciled inside the holster flap.

Wish I had it now.

My first was a Colt HBAR match target that i bought when i was 20. I wish i never sold it.

Just after I got out of the Navy, I bought a gen1 model 59. It has served me well for 35 years and thousands of rounds, and I expect it will continue to do so.

One way to judge how well it's design has lasted is to look at the Jericho 941. While it is a CZ-75 variant, the differences from the CZ and similarities to the 59 are striking.

My first gun was a Daisy 1894 Spittin Image BB gun which I wore out within two years. My first real gun was a JC Higgins bolt action tube fed 12 ga shotgun that I received in a box. It was rusted beyond belief and the stock was split. I managed to clean it up and cold blue it then I mad a new stock for it in shop class. It eventually split that stock also and was later sold for parts. I recently bought a couple of Daisy 1894 BB guns that need to be resealed just so I could see how they came apart. I never could get the one I had when i was nine apart. I resealed the new ones and it's fun to shoot them.

I bought a used 4" blued Python when I was 14 and took two weeks to get the guts to pull the trigger on it. I still have the gun and will never sell it

My folks gave me this Marlin 81 DL when I was 14. WW II had just ended and the woodwork on this rifle is not as refined as on later specimens. It's a tack driver and taught me to shoot a rifle. I put the scope on it. It's had thousands of rounds of hi speed so the headspace is a little long, but it still shoots accurately. I love it and it's not for sale at any price.
