Scoutings "Order of the Arrow".

I've posted before about Philmont and Scouting.

After my "Tap Out" in '64 I spent a night on a hillside tied to a tree so I wouldn't slide down that steep embankment. Had a knife and a canteen.

Doubt many 14 yo's would want to do that today.

Still say Scouting prepared me for survival in Scenic South East Asia and life.

I must have been in 62 or so. I was on a hillside also, by the river, with lots of mosquitoes for company. My dad was our Scout Master. He and all of his assistants were WWII vets and could be tough. One guy came back from basic training and told my dad he had taught him more about the Army. All of my dad's scouts, including myself, survived SE Asia.

OA (Brotherhood) & Eagle Scout....Troop 25 in Tennessee in 1966 IIRC.

Went to Philmont that same year...had a great time. Scouting was one of the best experiences I had in my early teen years. :)

Order of the Arrow - Brotherhood (1955) - Eagle Scout - Philmont - National Jamboree at Valley Forge in 1957. That's when scouting was SCOUTING. I fear that it is a bit watered down now - but still a wonderful organization.

Eagle 1964, Vigil Order of the Arrow 1966. I had a great time as a scout , learned many lessons and skills that helped through life. Later became scoutmaster which has it's rewards by passing on those skills.

OA, Eagle, Philmont & 73 Jambo in PA. Didn't do the adult thing, but my Dad was a 4 beader, was staff in 30-40 Woods Badge courses and was Scout Master in 10 or times. I've got boxes of coffeee cups of all the WB courses he was involved in.
