Rastoff is right about trade-offs in all forms of carry.

I pocket carry knowing full well that I could find myself in a position where it is difficult to get to the gun. I balance that with the ease of pocket from the time I get dressed until bedtime.
 
I really like the friendly banter here abouts.

But, just don't get what all the fuss is about....

I've carried a side arm for a long time, since back in the mid-last century.

I always have my pocket pistol on me, sometimes an
ankle rig of some sorts and a hip holster when need be.

I'm just not ashamed of being armed,
I don't buy in to the wanta be hero's scheme of saving the day
by concealed carrying his firearm and all that tactical advantage BS.

I've been shot at, shot and cut with a knife....And it all took place out in the open.

I've always sed, "It's the rattler that ya don't see, is the one that'll get ya!"

It's largely driven by emotion. And it's no one thing. A few at random...

-- Most folks, including me, were a bit self conscious when first carrying a gun. For most of us that quickly faded. For others it doesn't and the uneasiness persists. For these gun owners the idea of openly carrying a gun is near terrifying.

-- Some LEOs feel their authority is being challenged or threatened when someone not wearing a uniform is openly carrying a gun and they resent it.

-- Some gun owners suffer hoplophobia. You wouldn't think it, but it's probably more common than anyone knows. Seeing a gun carried in public by someone not in uniform creates irrational fear and anxiety in some gun owners. If the same person was wearing a uniform their irrational fear would subside.

-- Handgun carry has a long history in America of being viewed as the practice of outlaws, thus the myriad of laws banning and restricting not applied to long guns. Some gun owners stigmatize themselves for carrying a handgun and subconsciously think they are doing something wrong. The idea of openly carrying a gun is unthinkable.

Let there be no doubt.... some genius will one day figure out that even though the gun is covered up it's still there :eek:. And the notion that evil doers are hiding their guns will be even more frightening.

I am opposed to open carry except by peace officers displaying a badge. I always carry concealed. Today KS has constitutional carry, open or concealed without any type of permit. We shall see how this works out.

I welcome your question and will not belittle you.

I live in the great state of Utah where it is legal to oc and cc

I prefer cc because in Utah with the exception of Federal buildings, mental hospitals, courts, restricted access areas of state owned buildings (schools are ok), secure areas of airports and churches that notice on the State website the worse a property owner can get me for packing on their property that is posted no firearms is trespassing which means I can ignore signs and go pretty much anywhere without worries assuming the weapon is concealed.

Pack open carry I will make it about 10 ft into Costco and that happy person checking your Costco membership card will be calling 911.

You choose but for me I don't want to be explaining myself to a police officer everytime I am in public.

Sorry. You're right. Not a felon. Just multiple misdemeanor arrests for theft and burglary. Still unable to obtain a concealed carry permit in Texas. Copying and pasting on my phone is a hassle just google it. Multiple sources.

And yeah, I don't think mentally retarded people should be carrying weapons. Especially grown up ones who need their Mommy to drive them to the store and play on riding mowers while Mommy talks to the salesman. I guess I must be crazy! You're saying you can't look at a person and watch their behavior and you can't see a mental deficiency? The guy had the kind of a 7 year old. Adam Lanza's mother let her mentally challenge son (I know what Aspergers is. Have a few kids in my school with it) have weapons. We all know how well they worked out. And I'll bet people here would have cheered him on until the morning of his massacre.

As for prison interviews, I put zero stock in them. Too many variables to even come close to forming an opinion.

But it is funny that many here (including myself) believe that CC is a deterrent. Never do know who is packing.

And Ladder, we know you're a college drop-out. You're a fireman! How much education do you need to learn that water puts out fire? :). Cavemen were doing it a million years ago!

Hmm... When the City had a big hiring of applicants for the PD & FD, they put 'em all in a pit with a ladder. Those smart enough to use the ladder to climb out went to Fire Academy. Those who stayed in the pit and sulked went to Police Academy. ;) :) :D
(Couldn't resist... It's an old joke for an age old rivalry ;))

What is the person's name that you now admit you've been spreading falsehoods about being a convicted felon?
 
I'm offended by people telling my how/why/where/when I can carry, when I am already following the letter of the law.

Don't want to OC..... DO NOT DO IT!
but if OC is legal and I am following all laws regarding the carrying of a weapon.... stop trying to belittle me for my choice.

Some of the anti-OC crowd sound like the anti-tobacco/peta crowd. The vitriol and back handed insults serve no purpose other than a desire to feel morally superior.

To me, OC is about convenience. No need to have cover garments. It's hot enough in Houston during the summer. It's easy enough to cover when needed. It's not about either/or, it's about when/where.

Kory Watkins. Here's the link. Not that it will change your opinion about him or his methods. He wants constitutional carry because the victory that Texas just won doesn't serve him any purpose. It requires a CCW permit to openly carry, and his criminal past makes him ineligible. Of all the people they could have chosen, this guy is the best they could come up with?
