The City of Biloxi, MS Police Department and the entire MS Gulf Coast Community are mourning the loss Officer Robert McKeithen who was shot multiple times by ambush in the police headquarters parking lot at 10:00 pm on May 5, 2019 and died at a local hospital. No motive has been identified at this time.
Officer McKeithen (58) was a 24 year veteran of the department and had planned to retire at the end of this year. He was also retired from the USAF and leaves a wife, a daughter, and 3 stepchildren. He was known as a kind man who treated everyone with respect and dignity. He was also a decorated officer who received the Medal Of Valor after saving the lives of four special needs children during Hurricane Katrina.
Officers of numerous local, state and federal agencies are searching relentlessly to apprehend a 19 year old suspect believed to be the shooter and a total of $35,000 in rewards have been offered for information leading to the capture of the suspect.
My heart is especially heavy since the first 12 years of my law enforcement career was serving with this department which has a special place in my heart. I didn't personally know Officer McKeithen but would have been honored to call him, Brother. Please join me in offering prayer and comfort to the family, the Police Department and community.
Officer Robert McKeithen, Rip, your Brothers and Sisters have the watch.
