Not the factory protocol. The factory location was always 1/10” forward of the center of the butt. If the gun was already serial numbered and the lanyard swivel added later by the factory, the # was drilled thru and restamped on the left side grip frame under the grip panel. If the lanyard was installed by the factory before the gun was serial numbered, the # was stamped offset to the rear.
That’s not to say that for a large order for a police dept or foreign country the factory wouldn’t put the lanyard anywhere the customer wanted it. But I don’t think that’s the case for this gun because of the tampering with the serial #.
