OGCA was kind of disappointing

Something really good they did at one show 7 or 8 years ago was when they didn't get enough table reservations. They put a rest area right in the middle of the hall. Genuine couches and easy chairs. That was nice.

As far as getting all the northern members back, they'd just lose the southern ones to break even. When I first went to the Roberts Center I was pleasantly surprised at the size and the parking. But Roberts should have invested in their facility a bit more. It needs to be expanded south towards Wendys. And then they need to pave the parking lot and maybe even run a shuttle from over near the Indiana line where so many have to park. This isn't OGCA, but Roberts that needs to improve things. I haven't attended any of the "off brand" gun shows held there, or the antique shows that set up. Maybe bulging at the seams is only a problem at OGCA and the others aren't interesting enough to attract overflow crowds.

Not to beleager the point...BUT...

Well, I did stop. Long enough to see a cover over the tables and no one behind them tending shop. So I walked on. Then I stopped back a while later and things were still closed up. Sorry, I tried.

What time did you stop by?
The ONLY time the tables at P-22 and P-23 were covered was before the meeting opened and after it closed with the exception of Friday night during "set-up" when we went to supper about 6:30 PM...

No dog in the fight.........but why not vote the directors out of office. Baring that start another OGCA in the northern end of the state?

Our big show here in Florida is in Lakeland, that is not far out of the center of the state. It is in a large facility, but even that gets crowded.

Trying to vote out the present directors is just like trying to do the same with the NRA Board. Nearly impossible.

And yes, the free perks the Directors get is an abomination and an insult to the membership, but they sure as hell don't care. It's gimmee, gimmee, gimmee as far as they are concerned.

Ever notice how they always have their tables near the entrance, so they can pounce on everything coming into the show? They take care of themselves and no one else.

Dang, now I regret signing up for another 3 years.

ogca..............

yes, we miss a LOT of you guys who used to come ,stop by ,check in, those were good old days,BUT the current leaderships SUCKS to say the least , and they keep it up, they will bankrupt the club, it is NOT like it used to be, the fox is watching the hen house.....they saved me a LOT of money now that I don't set up there anymore, do the shows locally , here around home, and actually do BETTER...most table holders jack up the prices for this show, and unless you catch a "deal" coming in , if they can get by the door sharks , aisle princesses, ( floor whores) good luck...no, there is little if ANY dealing going on on Friday nights, I know I used to be about the only table holder setting there, taking my time and stayed till they threw me out at 9 pm ( not really as I was friends with security and the local sheriff deputies) heck there just was NO "dealing" they come in put their stuff down, covered up and went out drinking or partying, and yes the "party upstairs" is on US........

I went to the Medina gun show, an hour from home and had a very good show.................maybe will go down , in May, see the display show,, did that last year ,stayed a SHORT while and was having lunch up in Washington Courthouse at 11:30 AM !!! saw enough, nothings changed, but still miss most of YOU guys...........

You remind me of all the reasons I dislike joining clubs of any sort unless I have to. The NRA is one such organization as it seems to be a mandatory requirement to join most shooting ranges. Of course, if it then turns out that the club is run by idiots.....

Most clubs are run by the "Good Ole' Boys" and the newer folks and the younger folks can not be heard or listened to for any kind of input. Have a very nice private club range about 15 miles from me. But I use the public range that is closer to my house and more expensive. The reason being the club leadership is a bunch of the Good Ole Boys and run things the way they want.

I love this show! I never set up but am one of the people moving up and down the aisle looking at lots of cool stuff. I showed up about 1:00 on Saturday and was pleased that all the tables appeared to be full. Sure there are annoying people but that happens at every venue I have ever attended. I ended up purchasing a nice old Colt pistol at a good price.
I guard against being overtaken by any particular drama or let any regrets simmer over what shows used to be like years ago.

We drive 7 hours one way to goto an OGCA show. Being from NY and going to Ohio for these show is a treat for us. Now that being said, I've been a member for 15 years and have seen a lot of changes in this organization, some good some bad.

3 years ago the OGCA went back to the IX Center. First 2 shows were very good and the last couple were not only poorly attended but finically hurt the OGCA.

Like many have said above, it starts at the top. The directors need to fix what's broken and stop ignoring the problem. One more thing, would love to see a show in the north but it's not going to happen, they used to have a sight committee, which no longer exists.

Medina is better than the OGCA of now. All the reasons mentioned is the reason I quit the OGCA as it got too big for their britches when it came from the top by mismanagement!

I have heard that they are looking for a Northern site to have a show or two a year, but I'm not holding my breath.

On a side note, a buddy and I used to put on a display of M1 Carbines and related items at the display show in May for several years. We were asked to bring our display to the NRA show in Las Vegas one year, all expenses paid by OGCA, including hotel rooms for us and our spouses, plane tickets both ways, and the display would be driven from OH to Las Vegas and back, under guard the entire way.
We declined the offer and that was the last year we set up our display. Got fed up with the politics.
