Well, I drove up with visions of sugar plums, just like Christmas. My first hint of trouble was when I got there and had to park way out in the cornfield to the west of the center. Not just in the cornfield, but way out. Then I had to hike towards the parking lot where normal folks used to park. Not a good sign at all. Getting inside was easy as the members only part eliminated lines and as long as I'm not carrying, I get to use the main entrance. Then I hit the wall.

Not really a wall of humanity, but a bunch of other old fools. This is a show a lot of folks want a table. So the folks who put it on solved the problem by putting as much room between the aisles as behind the tables. In the low number aisles, like A to maybe G, There was just enough room for people to pass going both ways. If one person stopped, all movement stopped.

There were some interesting guns, the first of note was a .45-70 derringer. He wanted $700 for it, but you can get somebody to drive over your hand for almost nothing. I went looking for grips, but I was wished good luck with a laugh. I think I saw glimpses of a bunch of guns, but then the window closed as somebody bumped me or stepped into the opening.

Halfway along at about the 3 hour point, I needed a break so I got a coke and sat down. I headed back into the battle and on this end the aisles were wider by a couple of feet. But the high letters is also the "low rent" end where it more resembles wall mart. I did see a guy with tin bars for sale for $7 each. I don't know how heavy they were, but being nice an shiny told me it was at least high tin content. Saw a table full of components with an estate sale sign. The guy shot and reloaded odd calibers, or that was all that was left. Other tables had more once fired brass than I normally see at this show. Bags and bags. The estate sale guy made a big mistake by not pricing the stuff. He didn't have time to answer questions from half the people interested.

So I'm thinking the show has grown too large for the Roberts Center. Its a rare show that I don't find something I want. It could have been there and I just couldn't see it. Joe Gillenwater, my knife consultant, yelled at me and told me I should get there earlier if I wanted to see it all. The problem being that under good circumstances it would take 6 hours. I was there early. For me.

So I drove home and took a nap.

Was hoping to go there one day, maybe meet a couple members on here.

Learning to be very early at my show. The first two hours you really get a good look without much interference. Then the floodgates open.

So much is likely cherry picked the night before during set up that you hope someone overlooked something when you finally get in.

I agree with you. The crowd was terrible. I noticed that about 1:00 the crowd had thinned out a lot. I think from now on I will get there about 1:00.
I agree, there were a few guns that I was looking for, but had no prices on them. And like you say, it was really crowded.
Another thing, they should not let younger people in there as they are not looking at the items, they are too busy texting. They stop right in the isle to send one of their stupid texts.

I go on Sunday now, Saturday is way to crowded. Had a nice time at the show today, purchased a little ammo, saw some nice guns. Easy to get around, was their between 9:00 and 1:30.

BEST show I ever had!

You guys did NOT stop at P-22 or P-23...we had all kinds of S&W stuff (boxes, presentation cases, S&W paper and over 14 fine S&W revolvers)...MrBurg you should have stopped and visited with us, then you would not have been so disappointed...Mr.Rags was there and we had a very nice visit...

Kind of trying to figure out why all you guys that are complaining never stop by our S&W oriented table???...Roger

The isles were too crowded, saw a lot junk . People not thinking about anyone but themselves rude actually. Did not see much I was interested in.

Went to the Roberts Center once, since the venue moved down there to appease all the directors who live in Southern Ohio, and don't care at all about us "Northeners".
My membership expired in 2016, and was debating whether or not to renew. Ended up signing up for 3 more years, but I have no intentions of going down South and will not renew again. I'm pretty much done with OGCA and have been a member since the 70's.

I don't know why all the complaining about the OGCA show. Everytime I go I get screaming deals. Couldn't be happier there. Nothing going on at Bob Evans. Get to the show at opening or miss out.

I could not agree more!

Hey Zipdog...you hit the nail on the head...I could not agree more with what you said...Roger

I've only been to one OGCA show since my friend DANT stopped having a table there. I too have noticed that the shows are getting more and more crowded with them shoehorning more tables and cutting down the room to move. Add that to the ones who stop in the middle of the aisle to "visit" blocking access, the early grab detail lining the wall by the entrances, etc they are just not as enjoyable as those in the past. I am going to try to get to maybe one show this year ( 350 mile one way drive) ant it will be my first one in a year and a half.

If everyone complaining would just quit coming, it wouldn't be so crowded. Problem solved.
Glen
No, if the Directors/Dictators would listen to the membership, and think about the organization as a whole, instead of doing what is good for the directors only, the complaining just might stop.
Sounds like you might be a director.

No not a director, just can't understand all the complaining about something that is not mandatory and is of your own free will. I have been a member of OGCA since 1961 when we use to set up at the old Vets in Columbus and it was a far better show then, but I still go and still enjoy it, when I no longer do so, will have enough good sense to stop going.

I agree about the meeting in Columbus. Now that was a show.:D
The ones at the IX Center, near Cleveland were always good too, and there was plenty of room to walk around, even if people decided to stop in the aisles and "chat".

Although I wasn't a long term member like most of the previous posts, I agree with some of the complaints. First of all all of the shows are in Wilmington. Great for the southern membership, but not so great for those up north. There are alternatives in the northern part of the state to the IX Center. Two the Roberts Center is just too small for the shows. No one wants to drive 3 hours or so and be stuffed into a room like sardines. I waited several years for the directors to find a location up north to make it more accessible and it still hasn't happened. So I reluctantly let my membership lapse.

I know for a fact that there are several directors that never want to move north or find a central location. they have their free rooms, food and expense accounts and are treated like royalty by the Roberts center so all they care about is themselves and their paid luxury vacation 6 times a year paid for by the membership that they don't listen to!
even if a better venue is brought before them some of those directors will vote against a move because they're spoiled and want to keep their perks @ Roberts.
they lost thousands of members when they moved down south and would gain many of them back if they were willing to compromise and have a northern show if even once or twice a year but many if not most are against it. without the members they have no show or mini vacation but they just think for themselves.

Well, I did stop. Long enough to see a cover over the tables and no one behind them tending shop. So I walked on. Then I stopped back a while later and things were still closed up. Sorry, I tried.
