My son, who has always been an automatic fan purchased his first new revolver. He calls me on the cell phone while I'm at work. He says I'm looking at a 27-9 4" revolver and wants to know what I think about it. I told him if I was fixing to purchase a new revolver that I would probably pick the same thing. I just don't think you could do any better. I had a 27-2 5" one time and like a fool I let it get away. Anyway I come in from work, he stayed up just to show me his new purchase ( I work 2nd shift, 3-11's) and he tells me there is something wrong with his new gun. I'm setting here handling his new piece, and all of a sudden I've got it locked up. Cylinder is not coming out, not turning. Oh this is great, I just messed up my son's new gun. Finally I get the cylinder out, it has deep gouge lines on both sides of one particular bolt notch, very very faint line on the other side of the cylinder. I tell him he needs to call gun store and see what they say. They tell him he can send it back or we can send it back. We opted to send it back ourselves. The factory will send labels and boxes to return to the factory. My son ask my what I thought about all this mess. I told him I haven't sent one back since the mid seventies when I dropped one on a concrete patio and bent the crane and ejector rod on a model 19, that I should not have ever got rid of. They properly repaired it and promptly returned it at no charge. I couldn't ask for anything any better. I do not expect anything any different now. We'll see what happens. He wanted me to write a letter explaining what happened, so I did. While I'm writing this letter, I'm eating a package of cheese crackers and one cracker does not have any peanut butter in between the crackers. Huh. How about that? I get a paper towel, it has two small holes in it. Huh, how about that? I go to the rest room, look at the toilet paper, it has small holes in it too. The perforations are off center too. Not to mention it's off color too. I'm at the boot store last week and their running specials on exotic leather boots, factory seconds. What in the world is going on here America? We are selling our scrap !!!! Something has to give. I guess these CEO's of these big corporations have ordered an across the board scrap reduction, by sending it out to the consumers anyway, because they won't do anything about it, they have the data to back it up. I'm not expecting any trouble, but it is an inconvenience. We'll see how it goes !!!!

The Cheapening of America.

The Cheapening of America.

Everyone is looking to save money anywhere they can, so they send out less than perfect stuff at a lower price. As far as the Smith goes, it sucks that you have to send it back but realize, you're dealing with humans and I have yet to find one that is perfect. Mistakes happen and all one can do is hope they will own up to it and make it right.

I have read multiple times where S&W has an outstanding customer service department. I'm not expecting anything out of the ordinary. Things happen and I understand this. Getting back to the cheese crackers, I guess if they advertised them as "defective" or "seconds", they probably couldn't sell them at any price !!

Those old guys made too much per hour, had good benefits and a pension. Companies had to please the shareholders... So the old guys were let go.

Share holders are now happy because people are still buying crackers, paper towels, t/p, and S&W revolvers. When customers complain they are sent to endless automated phone systems.

Well, not all of us are buying S&W products.

Friday I pick up my new Ruger 45 Colt 4 5/8" Blackhawk. I take it apart to clean all the factory garbage out of it. I was nasty & some metal shavings were found. So I start to put it back together & the base pin is hard going in. I stop, take the pin out, clean & lube it & the cylinder again. This time it goes in all the way, a little tight but it went in with finger pressure. Then I go to turn the cylinder & it's locked up. Can't cock the trigger either. Or get the base pin out.

Called Ruger a few minutes ago. Told the Customer Srevice guy my problem. Got an RA# & he told me to package it up & UPS would be here tomorrow with a shipping label to pick it up. Shocked me, the owners manual said I would have to pay for return shipping. Good for Ruger!
