Yes, I am absolutely smitten with both square and round butt model 10's with 2" barrels. To me, this model just looks like it means business ! No frill, bare bones accoutrements just ooze solid get the job done performance. Not on board with mim parts, frame mounted firing pins, sleeved barrels and trigger locks-yuck ! I'm not suggesting there's anything mechanically wrong, but the aesthetics turn me off.

I just got my first 2" K frame a few weeks ago. A 64-2 in 2" with factory Magna round butt stocks. Square butts look weird to me in a 2". The gun almost looks like a 66 snubby. I shot it unbelievably well last week. Shots all dead center in almost one hole at about 10 yards.

Just bought my first Model 10 yesterday.
Not perfect but not bad either. I'm happy.
It's a 10-8 with a pinned barrel & 4D845xx SN. I have some research to do. I don't reckon that is considered a D prefix though, right, since it does not start out with a D?

I found this C907xxx 2" round butt at this year's Symposium, the square butt came from the Garbrecht collection.
I agree, I like the M&P model 10 in any configuration.

Regards,

I have a 2 inch Model 10 with a round butt. It's great, but I really wish it had a square butt. They just feel so much better to me.

The M10 2 inch was a great pocket carry BUG for cops. Your primary carry was likely a K Frame too.

rhe NYPD always authorized the Model 36 for off duty, and some Colt's. When they went to stainless guns the Model 60 DAO was chosen, but it soon experienced light strikes, and for only the first of two times that I am aware of, the nypd forced cops to stop carrying it. That was a big deal since cops bought their own weapons.

The union had to negotiate with Smith to take the now useless model 60 as a trade for the 6 shot model 64 2" in DAO. I saw very few guys carrying the 64 2". Some liked the extra shot and sharing speedloaders with their duty weapon.

When the 640 arrived, that was the pretty dominant off duty choice. The Ruger SPNY was also authorized, but most got the 640.

Hello all,
New member but far from new to Smith's, or any firearm for that matter.

Just thought I'd share the model 10's I have at present.

Snub nickel round butt with target hammer and trigger. Was supposed to have been a special order this way. That's what the PO told me that bought it from the original owner.

4" heavy barrel 10-6 in blue square butt.

4" standard barrel 10-5 in blue square butt.

A classic and favorite of mine, though I currently don't have one ( trying to remedy that, but they are surprisingly scarce where I live and I rarely see any available for sale locally, and always seem to miss out by a bid or two on the on line auctions) other than not being a fan of the 6" barrels, any other length would do, and I only care about mechanics, it can be rough from years of duty carry and that is OK.
I actually sort of prefer they are on the rough side, so I can use them as intended without worry.
Some great looking guns in this thread

Okay, there are some serious beauties in this thread...
What I just put money down on is NOT one of them. :D
But the trigger! In both single in double action, it's nothing short of exquisite!

Now, I get it... this is just my first model 10 (a 10-7). (I believe from the late 70s?)

She'll cleaned up nice. Perfection is boring.
