ok...DONT SHOOT!

For once me and the wife agree on something. Neither of us like the little nubs on the grip of the gen 4 glocks. They just feel funny. Just my 2 cents.

Nothing wrong with G19 as long as she doesn't keep it in her purse.

Sig P6 is good too. Single stack 9.

This is what I tell people looking for new gun especially if she is a first time with that caliber or guns in general.

Go to the gun store feel them and see which ones or most comfortable in her hand.

Borrow or rent those and see which one she shoots the best and most comfortably.

Guns that I like might not fit her well. For brands just a few to look at are sig arms, H&K, ruger, smith and Wesson, glock, beretta, kahr.

If she gets the Glock, go for a Gen 4. I hate Glocks, even though it's been my service pistol for a gazillion years. I despise the grip, except for the Gen4 and SF frames. The M&P is also a great choice, be it full size or a Shield.

If you wanted to stay a lesser expensive Smith...how about a M915?
It is a smaller 9mm that is easy to control and has good ergonomics (and it sports decocker).
Just my 2 cents.

I highly recommend the GLOCK 19...

I own two, a Gen3 and a Gen4. The Gen4 has a slightly smaller diameter grip which smaller hands might appreciate.

If she plans to CCW also get her a G26. That's what I did and the wife loves the G26 for carry and the G19 is beside the bed.

so why doesn't she try a good revolver.......... say a S&W mod 36, or a model 60.... 2" or 2 1/2" ............. with a set of Pachy grippers on either, it fits both my hands (v large palm) or my lady's (very small, she's only 5'2") neither have a safety for a newbie shooter to fumble with in a time of great stress............ & either will work well, strong hand or weak hand..... when she is ill , injured or wounded...... a good revolver will function perfectly for her................. Do not let your bias for automatics cause her to not buy the right gun for herself......

Just the thoughts of an old man who carried a handgun for a living many years & who helped more than a couple of new shooters become proficient............

If money is not the deciding factor, you are doing a disservice to yourself if you don't look at an H&k. P2000 or P2000sk or USP compact.

Well i can say...i hope she doesnt get the G19 for 2 reasons
1. After she rented it& I shot it.I want one myself. Its the only glock ive shot that i did not hate the hi-c juicebox grip, it shoots nice and size is small enough to not be a full size yetbig enough to still feel like there is a gun in your hand...anyways i dont wanna live with, oh you had to copy me
2. She shoots my M&P 40 just fine...first time ever touching & first mag throgh the g19 she stuck em all in a 6 inch group....so i also dont wanna live with tell em who is the better shot lol

Browning M-35 HiPower, S&W 39, or 439, M-92 beretta or a Taurus 92.
My X was hot for the Taurus 92; I prefer the Browning.
I want a 39 or a 439 again.

Just one major ceveat with the Glock family: it leads the world in negligent discharges.

"Negligent" being the key word there. I don't recall ever hearing of a discharge that didn't include someones finger on the trigger, as in operator error.

19...or 23 for my sd personal tastes, are nice guns.
Fanboys will tell you not to buy a glock. Shooters will tell you to rent a few more and shoot them.
I like the xds series, good feel, palm safety and fiber fromt.
Just a nice firearm.

Feel and comfort are where its at, right behind reliability.

Walther PPQ.
Best out of the box trigger on the market! Accurate, ergonomic, reliable, affordable.
You really can't beat them. They are about the size of a G19. The come with 2 15 round mags and have 17 round available.

My wife and I both have (and really like) a Shield 9mm for CC. I also have full size M&P 9 & 40 that I really like as well. I also have several other brands of firearms including Glock. While I shoot my M&P 9mm for IDPA I also have used my Glock 17 & 19 at IDPA. My wife loves her Shield for CC but shoots my Glock 17 for IDPA now.

Point is that you can have and like more than one brand and for us the main brands are S&W M&P and Glock. Both are terrific choices and both will do you well.

I suggest having her get her hands on multiple brands and models and have her decide which feels best to HER.

I second the revolver comment above. My wife has shot a number of my semi autos and doesn't like them. She has trouble with the slides. If she had an FTF or an FTE, I'd be concerned about her ability to get the second shot off. With a revolver, just pull the trigger again.

Also, she understands a revolver a lot better than a semi auto. Push the button, push the round thing out, put bullets in the holes, push the round thing back in and pull the trigger. (her words not mine).

For my loving bride of the past 32 years, the J frame fits her hand better, she understands it better (thus more comfortable with it) and can shoot a revolver as well (or as badly as the case may be) as a semi.

I've got both a G19 and a PPQ, I don't feel the PPQ is as "compact" as a 19, the 19 just feels smaller. CCW with a PPQ is possible, but not practical in a lot of cases.

3913/3914 would be my suggestion.
