I have been unemployed for about 3 weeks now and my bank account is about to dip under the $100 mark, can anyone in the Columbus Georgia area please help me out with a job, I am not asking for a hand out just some form of a decent job? I have tried temp agencies, but they don't care if they get you a job or not, I can't do the minimum wage jobs because I have a wife and 2 kids. I am really getting desperate, I did great on an interview today but that position won't be available until some time this quarter, so I need a job to just tide me over, I really hope one of our fine members can help me out somehow.
Thanks

Was just reading that just about every big box home improvement store is hiring. Try your area Lowe's or Home Depot.

Best of luck!

Be safe.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

Local churches have food to give to those in need.

Maybe a friend or local benefactor could give a small, interest free
loan against collateral for a short period of time.

I stopped short of mentioning pawn shops coz you probably don't
need the extra pressure of making the note.

I agree that you may consider minimum wage as slow starvation, but
that buys you a little time and folks seeing you trying are more apt to
help/offer you a position or side job.

I know you're trying & concerned. Stay focused. You need something coming
in now; even if it's nothing more than working at the car wash or flipping burgers.

Going into debt a little at a time over a period of time is a whole lot better
than quickly running up bills that you can't pay.

While you're at the church ask them if they know anyone that needs some
lawn work or painting to the old hacienda.

Hang tough...

I hired someone who came in and said, "I'm looking for a job." Two years later, she's still here and doing a great job. Gumption counts for a lot. Most people who take the initiative to actively pound the street will take the initiative to be a self-starter on the job and do it right, and employers know this.

First, what are your skills?

Any licenses (CDL, electrician, plumber, etc.)?

What work experiences?

Columbus is the one bright spot in the Ga job market, many opportunities if you know where to look. Tell us what you do and we will point you in the right directioin.

Any income is better than no income. It might not meet the financial needs but it helps. I am reminded of a gentleman that saw a boy shooting a bb gun into the air one night. He asked the youth what he was shooting at. The boy replied he was shooting at the moon, to which the man said, "Boy, you cannot hit the moon with a bb gun." The boy answered, "maybe not but I am coming closer than you are."

Not making light of your plight, but sometimes relocation is an answer to obtaining employment. Many areas are hard hit by unemployment due to the times and economy. Other areas have jobs going unfilled due to a shortage of good workers.

commercial construction and security, tattooing, and some landscaping, really good with a computer

all of the tattoo shops are fully staffed but I thought about that too I have been hitting the street for about 2 weeks looking

Sorry to hear about your situation... I've been there and I know what what it's like. I agree with others sign up for unemployment but don't just sign up for the money. See if they can help you get some additional training. If you're good with computers maybe they can help you get an A+ and Network + certification. That's what most around here want when hiring computer techs. (my field) Almost every large business has an IT dept. and they may have entry level jobs that usually start at better than minimum wage. Don't forget the government jobs. Local, state and federal offices have IT depts. Check out schools, courts, prisons, police, highway agencies, bridge or transportation authorities. At least around here many agencies like that will have their own websites with employment opportunities. Hope this helps a little and I wish you the best.

I guarantee the county lockup is hiring. They all are, all the time. Usually $12-$15/hr to start w/benefits. Of course you start Wed-Sun Midnight-8am. Good luck. Joe

Commercial construction should be an easy field to find work right now in your rea.

Because of the huge unemployment situation, there is no need for companies to advertise, so don't bother looking for ads.

In the next 18 months 50,000 people are moving to the Columbusd area due to the BRAC closures. This figure includes troops and their dependants. All thgese folks need places to live, food to eat, schools to attend, cars to dfrive, etc.

Do some research and driving around and find the companies that have the contracts both on and off base. The illegals can't easily work on base, so you have a bit of an advantage with the companies working there.

If the construction end doesn't work, hit every lumber supplier and construction products supplier. They will hire people who can make them money (think commission sales). Don't forget the concrete companies, can you do job estimate for concrete work?

Lots of money being spent right now to bring people into car dealer's show rooms. Dress up and go convince a dealer that you will make him rich, and sell more cars than the rest of his group.

Like I said, Columbus isd the place to be right now, but like Barb said, you have to find the jobs, they are there, but no "help wanted" signs are visable, as they aren't needed.

If you have a CDL, the concrete folks always need drivers, and the construction supply stores always need delivery drivers.

The 1st thing that came to mind was you're a tattoo artist in a military town but obviously you already checked that out.

One man working alone can paint the exterior of a 1200/1400 sf house, 3/2 w/garage in a week without killing himself. Using rental equipment and top grade paint can clear $1000.00. You don't need a permit to paint a house and a business license and LLC is cheap. This is a profession that if you like painting is an honest, respectable, line of work. All the training you need can be found on the internet and there are tricks of the trade that you need to learn. Don't start trying to paint $1,000,000.00 houses. Work on small jobs and learn, your a novice at this point. Network property managers, rental property, and real estate agents. Think big, the home repair business is a billion dollar industry and starting out now while you are hungry could lead to a lucrative career.

I actually have a bid in now, for an apartment complex, I am just waiting on a yay or ney

Look at this as a challenge or an adventure. When your kids are grown
up, they'll look back with pride on how you handled this. I've heard
stories handed down in my family. Fascinating stuff. This is a big
moment in U.S. history, and we're all part of it.
You've got what it takes, and you'll have bragging rights when
we come out on the other end.
