Exactly, assuming its not one of our members pulling our leg anonymously - I hate to think what someone would have paid for a registered magnum that didn't even know what it was, and wish I had gotten there first! I will probably go my whole life never owning one with my luck.

How'd you come about it?

That's a pre-war 357 Magnum/Registered Magnum. Do a search and read all about them but needless to say they're one of the most sought after revolvers.

It's amazing how often somebody stumbles into something for free or for a ridiculously cheap price and it's something that knowledgeable guys will walk through fire or sell body parts to get but the stumbler has no idea what it is he has acquired. Not a clue. There is no justice in the world. There is no fairness. There is only blind, dumb luck.

Sort of reminds me of this one except this one has a 10" barrel.

You have a .357 Magnum, the original version of that caliber, manufactured between 1935-1940.
It is often referred to as the Registered Magnum because it had a separate registration number (REG 2112) and a certificate detailing the specifics of each gun was available upon application to the factory.

It is a valuable and fairly rare revolver.

Thats quite a Forum introduction! a REG Magnum.......Some people have all the luck.
We would really appreciate more pic's if you are able!

Hey Jmenefee!

Are you by chance a Rush fan?

If this is real and not a joke.....good for you! Make sure you study real hard before letting it go, you have stepped in it and come out smelling like a rose!

If this is a joke.....LMAO.....good one!

I thought tomorrow was Jan 1st, am I behind a few months? I hate when that happens.....

Bob

Are you for real? I'm sorry to sound skeptical but one doesn't just have a Registered magnum and not know that it's worth Thousands of dollars. There was a pawn shop buy on here a couple of months ago picked up by an alert buyer at a pawn shop for 10 cents on the dollar or better. (A hard to believe story but true none the less) Now you come along with one.. the odds are slim that you actually have this gun or that you don't know what it is... If I am wrong I apologize in advance. It's like someone finding a nice 1965 Mustang in a barn in good shape and not knowing what it is.

Do you mind telling us what you had to give for it $$$$...unless it's something like $100.00 or someone gave it to you, in that case I don't want to know..LOL…………………………………………….M*

Before this the only smith and wesson revolver I have ever handled is a 38 s&w m&p revolver my grandfather gave me every other revolver I have or have shot is a colt saa or copy of one just have never had much reason to research smith and wesson

I replaced a rack and pinion on a van and was paid for the work with this

I think I am going to be sick..:eek::eek:
Can you take more pics of the entire gun both sides? Especially the sights and hammer area? Someone has to get lucky.. it might as well be you! Congratulations!!

I will show my skeptical side one more time.. not towards you but the guy you did the work for. Do you know him well? I only ask because he obviously did not know what he had either. If you know this guy well then good deal. If not I would be a little skeptical as to where he acquired this gun. ?? Maybe?

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! We need to see the entire gun in well lighted, sharp photos. It has some modifications to it that may either enhance or detract from the value. Nevertheless, it is worth thousands of dollars and you were paid handsomely for your work. As others have already commented, you are a fortunate man.

You did exceptionally well on the trade for the work you did. You'll have to overlook some of the comments I'd say there are a lot of people out there that have never heard of a registered magnum unlike most here that drool at the though of owning one.

Basically the person that gave you the gun for the work could have got a whole other slightly used van for the gun. They have been going for between 5 and 10 grand lately. Some are trying to get 15 to 20 grand and will be worth that for sure in some years to come. It is the most sought after and desirable model gun by most of us on this forum. You owe the guy some more work but congratulations on an excellent barter. The guns with the box all paperwork and good paper trail history and in excellent condition are the ones getting more than 10 grand but if your gun has an interesting past or famous previous owner the sky is the limit.
