Old 357 magnum

I saw a marked Reg piece sell for $4,100 this week. But no box or paperwork. I believe that even though it had the number stamped on it, it would be considered a non-registered piece. And it had a couple of finish issues.

I'm glad you got a nice gun for hard work. It may be that it's worth more than what your labor was, but sometimes it's nice when things work out that way. Maybe your friend knew he would be blessing you. I don't know.

All I know is that it's nice to see people get deals from time to time. I've been blessed that my Dad was into buying guns and I have not had to buy very many at all. On the other hand, he wasn't really into buying guns that I thought were the best choice, but I'm not complaining.

I ran the serial number through the hot guns site no problem there . I am planing on trying to get the factory letter from s&w but it will be a week or 2 until I can It does have a king sight in the front not sure about the back yet the front looks like it was added on later but the rear is textured just like the top of the frame and barrel. I would like to find out what the original grips looked like and if possible find a set. I have not managed to borrow a camera yet to take better pics but I will .

What site is this?

Well that's a bummer. The Colt Pony .380 that was stolen from me and reported to the Albuquerque Police Department in 1999 (SN:ML03841) does NOT show up as stolen on that database.

That is because you haven't posted it as stolen on that site. LEO's use their own site.

OK, seems to be be of very little value in determining whether or not a firearm is stolen if it doesn't include those reported to law enforcement.

I was checking on a gun recently to make sure it was "clean." I checked HotGunz, called the sheriff's dept AND put a call into my fed buddy (he has a work 'laptop'). Anyone can call any local lea and ask for gun numbers to be run. Due diligence.

As far as bartering for work... I've never been lucky enough to receive a vintage firearm for my services. I'm an electrical contractor by trade. I did do a job once for a Yamaha Wave Runner. The job was worth 1/2 the price of the ski. I rode it for a summer then sold it. Did well on that barter. Certainly wasn't a Registered Magnum - My personal holiest of holy grail S&W's.

Good job, op, btw... Congratulations!

In the last century I ran a gas station and, against my better judgement, swapped an alternator and a tank of gas (89 cents per gallon) for a nice Union Switch and Signal 1911A1. When the local deputy came through, I had him run the serial number and ended up with nothing for my effort.

I have no marketable skills once I set foot off campus. Nobody wants me to come to his home and discuss art history. I once had a photo made of me standing on a street corner holding a sign reading "Will discuss art history for food."
