A group of Americans was traveling by tour bus through Holland. They stopped at a cheese farm, and a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explaining that goat's milk was used. She then showed the group a lovely hillside where many goats were grazing. 'These', she explained, 'Are the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produce.' She then asked, 'What do you do in America with your old goats?'

A spry old gentleman answered, 'They send us on bus tours!

:D :)

Instead of being revered for their knowledge and wisdom, gained through a lifetime of experience, people expect them to dole out their life savings and then place them in nursing homes where they are ignored until they die at which point the next-of-kin wait with baited breath for the reading of the will. Whoops! What I meant to say was, they retire and are surrounded by their loved ones which hang on every word of the stories they tell about their lives and experiences then comfort them as their lives come to a peaceful and beautiful end surrounded by their loved ones.

You nailed it!

Yep. Not too long ago, our elderly were revered. Families lived close together and grandparents were treasured for the knowledge they could pass on to the upcoming generation.

Years ago, grandmas would teach the young girls how to quilt, how to preserve fruit, make jams, ad infinitum.

Grandpas taught the boys everything from fixing the tractor to how to sharpen a pocket knife.

When I was growing up, we lived within walking distance of my grandparents' home. Unfortunately, nowadays, due to employment, economic situations, and other factors, families often live hundreds of miles apart.

Grandma and Grandpa now live in a retirement community that doesn't allow grandkids. They dress in polyester leisure suits and drive around in golf carts...and some actually prefer it that way. Kinda sad to my way of thinkin'.

They may take my drivers license, and cars, but I'm not going out with a whimper.

"Move aside sonny Jim, it looks like your momma wants to go for a ride."
