I Just signed up on this forum last night. I’m a former PO whom retired and moved to the south. I use to own 2 S&W as service weapons. (38 & 9), I own a Glock 42 .380 with extended + mags, (not a fan), to carry in my shorts, I’m getting older, and I also want my wife to be able to handle a hand gun for self defense, so I just ordered a Shield EZ 9 on the recommendation of my gunsmith. I’m looking to possibly add red optics to the EZ 9 but I’ve been an Oldschool iron site person for the past 44 years, (learning on long guns then transitioning to pistols), so I’m not sure if red dot optics will be for me, but looking in to the possibly of making this transition, for the reasons I listed above.

Any comments and all advice appreciated.

Thanks Y’all!

I suggest you try and rent a gun with a red dot before you buy. Some people really take to them. Apply red dot, squeeze, what could be easier. Some start chasing the dot around the target and get frustrated. YMMV.

Welcome Thirsty,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, the 9EZ doesn't come optic ready (slide not cut). If you could possibly stop or change your order, an Equalizer might be a better choice. The Equalizer comes cut for an optic, has the S&W easy rack technology and also has a higher capacity.

I second the recomendation from MikeNV. I had an EZ and loved the easy rack and the loading. Eyes not what they used to be so sold the EZ and bought an Equilizer with red dot and never turned back.
