Anyone know where I can get one or what I can use besides a nail? I am picking up a smooth 4" tomorrow at a good price and the only thing not working or missing is the pin in the barrel that denotes a "pinned barrel." I took the gun apart today and it is clean and smooth. Just need a pin to keep that barrel "pinned."

If the correct part is not available (which it should be) from the usual sources, you could use a piece of drill rod. Round the ends and a little blue will make it look just like it came from the Factory. If you don't have drill rod or don't want to buy it, buy a drill of the appropriate size and cut it down ( un-fluted portion of course), round the edges, blue and install. In fact, it's a whole lot quicker than ordering one and will work just as well.

chief38,

Thanks for the tip. As far as I could find the only source for a barrel pin was SARCO for 1.25.00 with a minimum order of 20.00. I'll cut a drill bit first.

Too brittle for what........... it's only acting as a retaining pin. It will work just fine. I have used them many times and they are still in use.

I have also used drill rod MANY TIMES to repair firearms and fabricate pins. WORKS GREAT!

Heat treating the "drill bit" fabricated pin is easy. after you deburr, attach a magnet above a pan of oil. Let the magnet hold the pin and heat the pin until the magnet releases the pin and it falls into the oil.
