Well, just plain old, actually.

Back in the 80's, I qualified expert marksmen on the original M-16.

It had the solid stock with the kick-*** trapdoor, carry handle, and
triangular hand-guard.

I've rummaged around the interweb, and found these ol' relic pieces/
parts, but wonder if they will fit on an M&P15-22?

Anyone else try these items?

It looks like the carry handle is fairly standard, but what of the others?

If you do some work you can get standard M16 hand guards to fit on the 15-22.

You would need to buy the hand guards, delta ring assembly, a front sight block, the appropriate shims for the gas block since the 15-22 barrel is a smaller diameter, the Tacticool22 free float barrel nut converter for the 15-22, and a barrel wrench from Tacticool22 or Shooboy.

Use the specific 15-22 wrench to remove the stock barrel nut and the railed handguards will come off. Install the converter barrel nut. Install the delta ring on the new barrel nut. Loosely fit handguards and mark where the front sight block needs to be. Shim and install the block (this is the tricky part). Install the handguards.

The full stock will not work. The receiver extension on the 15-22 is part of the lower receiver. It may be possible with heavy modification, but you won't be able to change back to the original configuration.

Your best bet is to buy the Colt M16A2-styled .22 rifle. They're the closest to the full size rifles, but the quality is somewhat subpar compared to a 15-22 or a rifle using a conversion kit.

I own one of the original M16A1 uppers that you're talking about. I would think that the delta hand guards would be too long. Now, that's just opinion.

Check out the Century Arms C15A1. It doesn't have all correct features, but it's certainly a blast from the past.

It's been discussed before. Several members have done the hand guard conversion, and a lot of Brett248Vista's how-to videos have great information regarding the 15-22, and there's one with info on removing the stock barrel nut.

That kicks much in the way of buttocks, but I will not lust upon
anything that fires .223/5.56. The rounds are just way too pricey
for my budget.

For what a magazine full costs, I can shoot all day on with a .22LR.

You could always buy the C15A1 and a 15-22. Take the AR to the range now and then on special occasions, and fondle it at home when you aren't shooting it. Fondling is free. Shoot the heck out of the 15-22 with cheap bulk ammo and you will be a happy camper on all fronts.

if you want the triangle handguard to work your best bet would be to buy some car-15 handguards they came out durring vietnam but are carbine length
